Regarding the user Normy: He was warned many, many times about causing trouble in the Off Topic forum by skirting the rules. He was banned for a month, which I shortened down to a week in an attempt to keep him part of the community and have him abide by the rules. The day he came back to the forum, he threatened violence against the moderator. It was clear that he had learned nothing from his hiatus, and he was subsequently banned from the forums. I had previously received many complaints about him being a troublemaker, and we had given him plenty of chances to play by the rules that everyone else abides by.

The followup email to me after he was banned confirmed to me that this was a good decision.
