Normy...

Why was he banned from this forum?? Just wondering... Used to see him on Rlist also

Danglerb 01-06-2012 04:15 PM

Normy speaks his mind.

Sometimes banned isn't much of a "bad" thing, just the way it is.

Details likely in one of his last posts.

There must be no 1st amendment right to speak your mind on internet forums. I do not understand some people. They want to live in a free country, but they don't want anyone to talk freely. Maybe it's a Florida thing. I'm not sure. I go to Florida sometimes and there are alot of people down there that are so outwardly right wing, they don't even realize they have rights.

There aren't any rights in a forum. The forum is private controlled by Pelican. It's in there best interest to keep as many people happy as possible. They didn't boot him until he threated violence which isn't protected under the first amendment either. The goverment didn't throw him in jail (which is what it protects against). Many people confuse "free speech" with being able to say whatever you want with out consequences.. not the same. The public has a right to react to comments just as much as someone does to say them.

DanielDudley 01-06-2012 05:43 PM

Did pretty much the same on Rlist years ago. Was given a partial ban with the understanding he would not post in OT, but would not stop until he was thrown out.

924CarreraGTP 01-06-2012 06:11 PM

"Freedom of expression is absolute". George Orwell. I agree that threatening violence isn't good and is in fact illegal as is internet bullying. But... I find it kind of humorous that someone would threaten violence on an auto forum. I guess that person must feel passionate about what they write about. At the same time, I imagine whoever this person was that you speak of doesn't care one way or the other if he is on this forum or on RL. Most people who are trying to start trouble are looking to get kicked out of something. As a musician I perfected that art long ago.
However, I feel that we are all big kids and that we can handle dirty language without it being censored or banned on this forum. That's just my opinion. After all they are only words, and as long as someone isn't being racist, homophobic, sexist, or threatening, I don't see a problem with four letter words now and again. This is America.
I realize Pelican is based in Florida and I didn't add Democrat to that list of no no's. :D

924CarreraGTP 01-06-2012 06:16 PM

Oh, and you're right. Violence is protected by our 2nd amendment. :p

Do you even understand what free speech rights are and how the Constitution works? I don't think so based on your silly posts. The Constitution protects individual rights from government intrusion. The government (state, federal, local, whatever) can't do something to inhibit your free speech, or other Constitutional rights. This does not apply to private entities. Try telling your boss that you think he is an a-hole, and see where that gets you. Last I checked, Pelican isn't the government, and you have no free speech rights here or on any other internet boards (or in a deli, or a department store, or any other non-government owned place). Instead, you are governed by something maybe more precious - civility, decency, and common sense.SmileWavy

I ran a web forum for quite a while and you either followed MY rules on MY forum or I'd hit the delete key and make you disappear. No different than someone getting kicked out of my house for starting trouble.

I paid for the software, I paid for the server space and it was my time and energy that went into setting everything up and maintaining it on a daily basis. I'm not politically correct and there are no entitlements on my dime. It was my choice to keep an informative and peaceful environment void of trolls and trouble makers.

The Wild Wild West is still out there and it's called USENET. Or check out something like a Camaro or Civic forum where anything goes...try to find any informative content between the fights and porn.

Danglerb 01-07-2012 09:24 AM

Different forums and mail lists have different rules, and like 19psi says the owner decides, its his house and his rules. A very common rule is ON TOPIC, nobody wants a technical discussion of dynamic compression ratios to deteriorate into politics.

Usenet is the opposite, one @ss can ruin a group by flooding it with junk and its almost impossible to stop them without going to a fully moderated group (all posts approved by a moderator, which typically delays all posts by hours or even days).

924CarreraGTP 01-07-2012 12:31 PM

Sorry to offend some of you, but you do have the right to call your boss an "a-hole". What you are talking about is a matter of consequences, not rights. If I had a boss (I work for myself) and he overstepped his bounds as a boss, I have the nuts to call him an "a-hole". Furthermore, I have the right to call him an a-hole. Even in Florida. lol
I also understand that this site being run by PelicanParts is a privately owned forum and therefore they make the rules. All I'm saying is that calling the turbo system in a 924 Turbo a piece of $hit is an understatement. I think it wouldn't hurt to be able to write that without using $. That's not saying the site shouldn't be moderated. I'm saying that every now and again a dirty word doesn't offend me.
Next, my snide comment about the 2nd amendment implys that gun rights make violence a part of our society. On the other hand, we have to accept that violence, because without our gun rights, we cannot protect ourselves the way our Constitution and Declaration of Independence instruct us to do.
It was a joke, and I obviously understand our Constitution better than Linderpat above. I'll meet any of you on politics any day. For the record I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. I'm an American.

yeah, I don't think anyone is going to disagree. But you can't claim 2nd amendment rights when you get fired... which is Normy's situation.

I agree about the 4 letter words. I lost 1/2 my 928 adjectives. but you gotta draw a line.

and guns... if they world wasn't ALREADY violent there wouldn't be guns. Tell the woman and baby who just killed a guy with a knife in her trailer that she would have not suffered a violent fate with out her gun

924CarreraGTP 01-07-2012 02:01 PM

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
President Thomas Jefferson
As far as Normy is concerned. I think I remember his posts, but I'm not sure. No auto forum should be important enough to cause violence. Definitely no reason to resort to our second amendment. lol That should only be exercised for deer hunting.
I just feel that my right to free speech should be exercised. As I have done here.

I know it is funny. Not as funny as you actually displaying Ford Mustang ownership on a Porsche 928 forum though. :o
The only thing missing from your collection is a Fiat X 1/9. Then you will have a complete collection of junk. Except for the 928 of course. :D:o

Dean_Fuller 01-08-2012 07:33 AM

This has headed south quick. :(

I was "self-employed" and all that means is EVERYBODY is your boss. Right or not....call a customer a A Hole and you won't be "self employed" for long.

Oh and the Fiat X 1/9?....I have been looking for years for another one. Have read three articles in the last 2 years about how its a sleeper car and I have to agree. the best driving car I have every had the pleasure to drive. Just under powerd..which can be remedied quickly....of course thats your RIGHT to call it Junk. Its MY RIGHT to say your wrong. :)
