My new used Volvo wagon
Needed space to carry artwork, so traded my '08 C30 for an "06 V70 R wagon.
Wanted a plain Jane V70 but couldn't find one without high miles, so I bought this really clean, dealer certified '06 w/50K miles, 50K miles or 2012 remaining on warranty. Didn't want anything special, but this car has 300HP, auto trans w/ shift rpm control and sequential shift feature, three suspension settings, ya da ya da... Made two stops on the way home from the dealership and at both places had a guy approach the car and wax enthusiastically about what a great performance car it is, how hard they are to find, ya da ya da... I don't know much about Volvos; is this a highly thought of performance car? More important to me, did I buy what might turn out to be a can of worms as is often the case with "high performance" models? Too dark to take a pic, but its dark gray metallic w/tan leather, similar to this:

How's it work for carrying artwork?

Ohhh...yeah! I can use it for that!
![]() ![]() I did comment, below the pic, on its cavernousnessness. I'm 5' 13.5" long and can stretch out and sleep in the back. It feels about as quick as my 227 HP C30, but much heavier and less agile.

That's funny... I don't know a thing about Volvos, but it sure looks like you're going to learn!

Hey, It might be a great adventure...I knew next to zilch about Mustangs when I bought mine...It's been fun learning, really.
Posting boards are great ways to learn the little (and big) tricks...for example, I didn't know I could change the color of my dash lights...

Knocking on wood for ya...But really, wrenching can be fun if you start with the basic maintenance things.
We need wayne to write a "101 projects for your volvo" book.

I drove my C30 for over a year with the foot-wells bathed in red light. Then one day they were no longer bathed in red light; they were bathed in blue light. I found that to be very puzzling, not to mention disturbing.
Then I learned there's a hidden switch that I'd hit - which allowed the footwells to be bathed in yellow and green light too. I still find that feature a little disturbing...but at least I'd learned how to control it. Almost two years into owning the car, I went to retrieve my digital camera out of the deep center console compartment with a hinged lid, and the deep compartment had mysteriously become a verrry shallow compartment - and it was empty! That was even more puzzling and disturbing than the light show in the footwells - until I discovered there were two release buttons for the lid - one for the deep and one for the shallow compartment on top of it. I grew to like that "now it's deep, now it's shallow" feature. I started showing passengers, saying, Check this out! But I quit doing that because all I got were puzzled looks, like, Are you a ten year old? puzzled looks - which I found disturbing. I wonder what surprises this wagon holds in store for me. When I was backing out of the parking place at the dealership to go home, I panicked and jammed on the brakes because I thought I was about to get hit by a backing up dump truck. The salesman walked over and asked what was the matter...then told me it was the wagon that was beeping and showed me how to disable that miserable feature. Which reminds me of the C30 again. Six months or so into ownership I was out and it began to sprinkle (the sky, not the car) and the wipers came on. I thought something must have gotten wet and shorted out. Then it started raining real hard and the wipers began going full blast...until the shower abruptly ceased, a few wipes after which, so did the wipers! I called Volvo on that one! They told me I'd probably accidently depressed the rain-sensing wiper feature switch on the stalk. I'd never even heard of such a feature! I wish you could still buy a "simple" car.

Lotus Elise was always pretty simple.
But, she was easy, and yes, a helluva lot of fun.....oh...you're talking about "wrenching".

Very nice car. With a few modifications, you can get a lot of power out of that little wagon.

Hey, it ain't little, it's "Mid-sized"!
The V50 is little - I thought that's what I wanted until I looked at them at the dealer today and learned they are just a little C30 with a little station wagon body. What concerns me a bit is the fact that the V70 has essentially the same little 2.5L, I5 turbo motor that makes 227 HP in the C30 and is boosted to 300 HP in the V70. Is this stressful for such a little motor? Or just for me? I worry about my propensity for blowing things up.

Oh yeah, and it's AWD.
Now maybe I'll save money calling tow trucks to haul me back on road.
