LED TV's
Any game changing advances on the horizon or is 240hz 3D about as good as it gets in ~46 inch LED sets?

OLEDs are defintiely game-changing and will be debuted at CES in a couple of days.
conventional "LED" TVs only use the LEDs to illuminate the LCDs - the LEDs replace fluorescent tubes. OLEDs are the real thing - the LED IS the pixel. Apple is getting in also. |

As Randy noted, the present LED TVs are not LED TVs. Just edge & backlit LCD panels. Plasmas are still considered 'the best' by many. OLEDs may change that but best to wait & see. Ian

Aren't we getting to the point of diminishing returns on HD TV? Our 52" sony 120hz LED has an incredible HD picture. I personally think 3D TV sucks and just don't see a new technology being that much better than current LED sets ?? At least not enough to make anyone want to throw out their current TVs and spend megabucks for the latest thing.

Will replace a CRT set so most flat panels will be a step up. Had not heard of 4K before reading it here and as indicated above, is a ways out for most and then come the issues with signal sources... . OLED seems evolutionary. Like most, I'm not wanting to pay 100% more for 10% better (or similar proportions). It seems that OLED may become widely adopted but not quite soon enough for my situation.
All the same, thanks to everyone for your time and insight and to Wayne for the investment in a board where so many can discuss so much stuff!! |

Buying cheap LCDs until the large OLEDs come to a reasonable price.
