Ad Valorem BS -- Thanks, GA!

Just renewed tags on my three vehicles---each nearly $200 per year just for the renewal sticker. I feel so ripped off. I'm just sayin'.......:confused:

When you can't raise taxes, you create fees.

masraum 01-14-2012 09:13 AM

Here in TX, I usually pay $53 or $63 (not sure why it's not always the same) plus another $2 to pay online.

True, but are property taxes 2+ percent of the house's value in Georgia?

masraum 01-14-2012 09:37 AM

dunno, are they?

I bet my state income tax is lower. ;)

Kevin- the good news is that your life is so successful that you have 3 cars that are valuable enough to have a $200 renewal fee....I'm just sayin'...

In Minnesota, I have clients that pay over a thousand dollars a year for tabs. Even a "normal" car can be $500+

pete3799 01-14-2012 10:46 AM

$65 a piece for my 3 cars,$1713.54 for the Peterbilt, and $46 for the trailer.
Drivers licence was $83

We had huge fees to support a (now failed) monorail project in Seattle when we first moved here. The registration on my wifes Lexus was $650!!!!!

YEAH.......MUCH easier than trying to cut costs and be more efficient - like a business would! :rolleyes:

It appears this is like a personal property tax. It is nice if you don't have to pay for taxes on your property but I would expect to have to pay them. It actually makes more sense to me than being hit for an entry fee every time you drive or walk into a state park.

A930Rocket 01-14-2012 03:11 PM

GA has had it for years (25+). SC has property taxes.

Just paid $275 on my wife's car. Mine was $17. :)

cgarr 01-14-2012 03:20 PM

Is the cost based on the value of the car? If so I would say go buy some old junk but they already crushed all the good old cars. So I guess they got us all by the scrotum.

1% tax on residential and 3% tax on agricultural land in Indiana. They keep trying to say my classified (read as tax free) forest is agricultural and that the hills (30% slope in areas) are readily tillable. If the tax guys ever win those battles my taxes will almost triple.

Taxes on the property in Texas are rather cheap. At our old home (MUCH nicer than the one in Indiana) and 1/2 the property my taxes were much less per acre and home.

Fewer issues there as well... That is unfair as I am just mad right now...

rattlsnak 01-14-2012 06:38 PM

My 911 was $27.00 this year. It's based on the states perceived value of the car. You must drive new cars.

GH85Carrera 01-14-2012 07:16 PM

Both of my cars cost 24 bucks a year for tags.

911=1985
HD=1996

911 TAG was $20 but AD VALOREM is $184.....

rattlsnak 01-15-2012 06:51 AM

Well, then it comes down to your county and zip code. As stated, my 84 911 AD Valorem was $57.00

( typo from above, not $27.00)
