Water deposits...on glassware...and my friggen toilet bowl....

Not like a guy really notices...but recently the glassware has been coming out of the DW looking like smoked glass.

Being a guy I didn't really notice until the balck streaks started runing lines in the toilet bowl.

Can't get a comment from the association...we don't pay water....

Any input?

Vineager, ammonia, DW additives.....no bueno....

Your dishwasher probably needs a clean out. You can get products specifically of this task. Dont forget to empty the sive/drain thingo at the bottom... The toilet bowl needs a good cleaner and some elbow grease.

Sounds like an iron and manganese potential problem?????

For the dishwaster, try adding a teaspoon of TSP to your dishwasher soap and see if that gets rid of the spots??

I don't remember the specifics, but recall a comercial for a DW soap/detergent? that referred to that haze and said it would get rid of it. You might do a little googling.

If it is a Miele DW, then they recommend their soap. Other then that, Jet Dry. that stuff works great. I have heard that you need to run a bottle of vinegar during the first cycle to get rid of Aqua Rex. Look it up. Most plumber don't read and are not up to date with the latest and the greatest. I love this little thing, it works. My plumbing supplier don't think so, but I have put them in people's homes for the past few years. It is one of those many little things that work without any notice to anyone

It is due to the new (about a year now) Federal regs on dish detergent. They reduced the amount of phophorus.

That's it.

We just had a repair guy out on the film on our glasses was one part of the conversation. Here's his recommendation: Buy the best soap you can, either Cascade or Finish. Then buy a product called "Lemi Shine". Mix 50:50 with the detergent (put in a separate container). Use just a couple of tablespoons of the mix, don't fill the cup all the way. Run water hot at the faucet before you start the dishwasher. Finally, use the hottest setting on your dishwasher ("sani-rinse", etc.)

It has made a marked difference in the appearance of our glassware.

For the toilet bowl, go to a good hardware store and get a pumice stone. Put some Comet bleach on it, and scrub the calcium away. I have to do this about once per year because we have very hard water. I use Comet bleach to clean hard water spots off of the drinking glasses also. Works well.

This ^^^^^ Started with the TSP a month ago and things are sparkling now.

That's real TSP, read the label.

Actually this was a Washington State issue rather than a EPA mandate for removal. Has to do with Phosphate removal in certain Washington water sheds and the soap companies simply punished the rest of the country as well by removing the phosphates from their soap.

Try the TSP you will get the same results. It has to do with Phosphates in small amounts.

Absolutly, use the REAL Tri-Sodium-Phosphate, not the liquid or stuff that states it is a TSP substitute. You don't need much and IT WILL NOT HURT the ENVIRONMENT!

Bingo! But I do understand restaurants are given a pass...still allowed to use the good stuff. So, if you know anyone in the biz...

I don't know the stats, but I'd think phosphates in lawn fertilizers(read parks and golf courses) would contribute more to water pollution than dish detergent.

There was a bread factory, believe it or not, that stunk of hydrocarbons from 10 blocks away.

IIRC a water softener doesn't help with iron.
The wife wanted a softener and we have a real good plumbing supply shop (Norm's) who won't sell you one without a water sample. He phones me the next day and says "What's the problem? You should be bottling that water!" Then tells he'd love to make a sale but he'd be ripping me off, said I have slight trace of iron but that's it
BTW if you drink Canadian bottled water it most likely was bottled a few miles down the road from me

HD didn't have give a carp about a sample, they were just after the sale. I'm glad I went with Norm's, I bet he saved me a grand plus salt.
