My wife took our new pups to the vet tonite for their second set of shots. While she was in the waiting area, a woman walks in, pushing a baby carriage, holding another baby and holding onto two 80lb pit bulls. One of the vet techs takes hold of one of the dogs, the other dogs breaks loose from the woman, runs across the room knocks my wife over a table and grabs my Bodhi. he tosses him and grabs hold of Sydneys head and slams him into the wall. Everyone in the place ran and got my wife away and separated the dogs.
Syndey ended up with four staples on the top of his snout right below his eye. half an inch he probably would have lost his eye. Bodhi was just a little shaken up. I wasnt there when it happen I was on my way home from work, my wife called me immediately after it happened, she was hysterical crying like a maniac. I flew there , by time I got there the stupid ***** with the pitbulls was gone. I called the police and filed a report. also told the vet that I wanted a report filed with the local Humane society , and SPCA. Im raging over this. Just plain ignorance and stupidity. ![]()

Nice. I'd be ragin myself. I'm glad your dog is ok.
In that situation, I'm not sure if my urge would be to kill the dog or the owner. I have a hard time blaming the dog for being a dog.

Jeeze Vin, with the neighbor(and whatever else after that) you've had more than your quota of knuckleheads.

Sickening. I hope your puppies are ok. That type of experience is really negative for a puppy's personality development. Hopefully he won't be scared/aggressive towards other dogs now.
FWIW, you have a slam-dunk case against that dog owner and yes, the vet's office if you want to sue them. I'd punish the dog owner severely. Make them cry like a baby. |

Randy, I didnt see the woman , but from what I understand, she wasnt your stereotypical pitbull owner. Around here alot of the pit bull owners are far from the typical low class that tend to own them.

Dennis, the vet said that because of their age, by tomorrow they will probably forget the whole thing. You can tell they are a little shaken up. But when we got home, they were playing around like nothing happened.

What did the police say? Is the owner on the hook for your new vet bills?

Sorry to hear about this. My father just told me that one of my sister's friends had her son attacked by a stray Pit and the little boys face was severely damaged and he'll require extensive surgery...

The vet is a ******* liar. I'm not saying that they're ruined for life by this but it makes an indelible impression on an animal when it's attacked by some monster trying to kill it. If the vet believes that, he knows nothing about animals. Nothing.
He just doesn't want you to sue them. You can get all of the info on the pit bull owner from the vet. Either the easy way or the hard way, but you can get it. And Randy, I pictured a white person when he first told the story. I see more white people with pit bulls than any other group. At least out in public, as opposed to chained-up in some back yard in the 'hood. |

Den, I agree. this had to have screwed with their heads.
I already filed a police report. Plus im going to follow up on it, Monday with the Humane society. Your right about more whites owning them. Most that have them in this area get them as a "bad azz" status symbol. Plenty of well-to-do people with them. trying to toughen up their image.

Husky dogs can be nasty too.
A few years ago a Husky growled at me for no particular reason and the owner did nothing about it. Just a smirk on her face that said everything.

That tends to be what I see. And it doesn't matter what color, race or ethnic group they belong to, it's mostly about that image.

The phrase 'there are no bad dogs only bad dog owners' comes to mind. Good for you to persue this!

It doesn't freaking matter the KIND of dog it is. There are plenty of people with perfectly friendly dogs who simply do not take responsibility for them.
Even dogs that are friendly can do something that seems violent but is simply excitement (not implying that is the case here). I used to take my lab to the dog park regularly - she LOVES it. I can't tell you how often other people's dogs would get all up in her grill, barking, growling, jumping - doing what dogs do but things that are specifically supposed to be curtailed via the rules of the dog park. My son loves coming with me but I've had a few incidents where dogs who are just too friendly jump on him, knock him over or do some other thing - they don't mean it badly but the results are bad. The owners are responsible and more often than not they don't see any 'problem' with the behavior. My dog is my responsibility. I know her, she's a good dog and I trust her but I still contain her in public and other situations where I am not in control of the world. I know she loves to play with little dogs but she's a big dog - she doesn't mean any harm but when she starts barreling to them it sure won't seem like it to them. I don't let that happen if I can stop it. I'm still interested in the police and owner's response though...

Sorry about the bad event Vinny, that sux much. You and the missus have way to many interactions with knuckleheads.
My neighbor has a pit bull that is very very well behaved. With most dogs she goes right to her back and gives up the belly. But they keep her leashed none the less.
