For all of the people crying over the MB 500E getting crushed:

Here's your chance, put up or shut up:

1992 Mercedes Benz 500e

Ridiculous

Too much 928 is never a good thing.

The price is $7k, not $7750. How much do you want to bet that it's still available? That no one from this board has rescued it from getting traded-in for peanuts?

Remember, this is the uber-special MB 500E that everyone was crying over getting traded-in during the CFC program. I guess it isn't so special after all. No one is buying it.

Yeah, those cars were pretty cool when they were new, but they really aren't that special and ultimately have no real "collector" value.

I think part of the problem with them is in 92 it was an ultra high performance sedan. But in 92, I don't think anyone would have predicted how far the HP and performance race would have progressed. It's been way outclassed by all manner of "regular" Mercedes these days. For $10K-$15K, you can buy a much later model E500 that is faster and a better ride overall.

And Porsche did have some involvement with the 500E, but really, who cares. That doesn't add much value, IMO.

And, it's a 4 door automatic. That's a class of car that never becomes "collectible."

I still think it's a cool car, if I had unlimited garage space, I'd pick one up.

Everyone here is "seriously considering it", as long as it only involves key-strokes on a keyboard. Actually running out and buying it, not so much. That's my point.

I or some other L.A. Pelican could go check it if anyone is seriously interested in buying it today. Any wagers on that really happening?

Sure made for great political fodder for the usual FOS crowd a couple months ago.

Love the well thought bull**** wording:

I plan to sell it Monday for $7750 but call me if you want it before ..paint needs buffing and the front shocks need to be redone but never been over 100mph and if you know 500e you know what it is.

The CFC program was still a stupid, useless waste of money, but that's a different issue.

Nice cars, but I'd probably lean towards spending just a little more and getting a W210 e420

it's cheap to get a car shipped....probably $500 to $700 to PA. think of the cost of gas and hotels, plus extra wear on the car....

If your nuts are in such a twist over it cough up the $7k yourself and buy it.

Seeing one that will stay in the market for sale at a cheap price is a completely different scenario than seeing one headed to the crusher.

Mc - Well these cars are actually pretty cool. I have driven several W124 500E and they boogie beautifully. They run to 60mp/h in the mid 6s, which you are right is nothing special now, as Camrys today and Accords are in 260-275hp range. Back in 1992 320hp in an E-Class was insane and was the same as a 911 Turbo of the same year.

These cars came to the U.S with only 1,500 sold, they were around $80K brand new 18years ago, that is alot of $$$ now, much less then, so their rarity is part of the appeal. The fenders are hand welded and the interior is unique to this model Benz only. Brakes, Chassis and Engine were developed at the Porsche Rossle-Bau factory, see below, not just "some" development:

Above screen shots from the Porsche Rossle-Bau factory being assembled adjacent to the mighty Audi RS2!

The M119 engines in these cars will easily see 300,000 miles with regular maintenance, they are bullet proof.

And Auto cars are very collectible...I can name truck fulls.

This car will fall in the cult Status in terms of Mercedes cars same as the :
600SEL
300SE 6.3
450SEL 6.9
560SEC
/// AMG models

Again a great buy for $7K!!
Yasin
