I do think there was a thread here recently about this. A few guys posted a lot of good advice from their experiences. As said above, lots of fake "profiles" to keep interest high and money rolling in. Weed out any w/no or I'm-too-busy-and-important-to-complete bios. Really? Rediculous. Next is to search by most recent logins first. Some of the profiles will show a 'join' date.

Also, (MO) if the all pics show them: A) From the neck up only B) Fuzy, vaseline-coated lens photgraphy where it looks like they were at the prom C) Any pic set that starts w/ a pic of their pet first. D) pics where they were attending some function with an arm around their significant other and that persons face has been eliminated with white-out OR (my favorite) black magic marker. E) pics have objects / clues in the background that are at least 10 years old and 30 pounds ago. F) ANY pictures showing more than 1 cat (refer to "C") - ABORT!-ABORT!

Date sites must be a joke. Or for fatties...not that there's anything wrong with that. :) I did it the old fashioned way...I met mine at a bar. 25 years ago.

asphaltgambler 01-18-2012 06:01 AM

I do think there are quality and sane women that post, but as in any other scenario, due diligence my friend...................................

I am thinking that women over 40 are mostly NUTS.

When I was using Match.com I noticed it didn't occur to people what was in the background of their photographs. Dirty laundry and houses, ashtrays and the like. I used those photos like a shaman using chicken entrails to detect bad ju ju.

red-beard 01-18-2012 06:30 AM

I had a lot of fun with Match, but I also met a lot of crazy, unrealistic women.

Just like any other group, there is a broad mix on dating sites. Sorry, but if you're only finding fatties and losers then you're doing something wrong. Or maybe not...

Online dating has a set of unwritten rules, just like the bar, grocery store, etc. It is simply a way to look at a much larger pool of candidates and then try and figure out who may be interesting. It takes time and effort to make it work and you have to learn to read between the lines. As a guy if you think the way it works is to put up your profile and the hotties beat a path to your door then you're sadly mistaken. The attractive women get plenty of attention. The men have to make the first move and it has to be done correctly (not a "wink" or other pansy bs). A brief but well written email works best, along with your profile being an honest representation of yourself - and hopefully you're not boring in real life. You have to differentiate yourself from the other guys as some women get tons of emails.

In the couple of years I was on match I met and dated some great women. But I was the one that had to do the work to find them. I only had one time where a smokin' hot women pinged me out of the blue.

It isn't magic. It is a tool. And if you don't take the time to learn how to use the tool it won't work.

I've had a lot of fun on Lavalife locally. It's a pay site. I'm not online anymore but I was dating this way for about 6 years.

Free may seem good but because it's free you get a lot of broke people trying to meet someone... Anyone... and most of them are not ready for anything.
You may be tempted to have multiple profiles on different sites but you'll soon discover that most of ladies your trying to meet locally have done the same thing.

So stick to one good pay site and give it a go. It really is only a numbers game. You'll meet ladies you would have never met otherwise. Don't be discouraged of at first it seems nothing is happening. Give it time and have fun.

My current GF I met through friends ;)

+1

I met my fiance on eHarmony. We're getting married in September.

Over the last 3 years (since getting divorced) I met a lot of women on line. Sure I met some duds and some fatties, but I also met some of the most amazing women I've ever dated. Women with PhDs, women who are stunningly attractive, women who get picked up on all the time in real life.

You're the man, so you've got to do the work. Whether that means picking up women at the bar, the gym, the bookstore or whatever. Don't blame the tool just because you don't know how to use it.

Run away from any photo that includes grandkids or a horse!

red-beard 01-18-2012 07:43 AM

Horsey girls can be fun. They automatically do Kegel exercises while they ride...

If she has more than two cats stay away.

I met a "lady" that had a fat suit. She was thin but she had a nude suit that she wore that had big saggy breasts and fat tummy etc...:confused::confused:
