I got tired of the original wheels/tires from my wife's Rubicon taking up space, and sold them on CL- For more than just a couple hundred!

I bought a nice set of Koenig wheels for the Miata from CL. Tires were old off-brand junk, told the seller I wouldn't use the tires, and asked for a reduction in price. The seller was so tired of CL flakes promising to pick them up and not showing, she was thrilled just to get them out of her garage.

Anybody want the stock 8-lug wheels from my 2001 Chevy? They're probably next to go on Craigslist.

Depends on what they're going on, for me. My 996 got basically new Michelin PS2s, with Mercedes I like to stick to Michelins, etc., but I've put used tires with some miles on cars before. The price/condition just has to make sense.

New, high quality tires are of course best but man, are they getting expensive. I spent $800 on a set of E- rated tires for my F-250 in Mpls 4 years ago. I'm sure they've gone up since.

I was just reading an article today that our govt has slapped a big import tariff on tires imported from China, where most of em are being made these days. Prices have gone up.

I've been searching for tires for my 914 and in that size they haven't been showing up much...195/50/15. Going to keep searching though. Good story - congrats Paul! SmileWavy

Don't be scared. I just drive my PU locally. Bought 4 used Studs for $50 3 yrs ago - Recaps and date code of 1984.....On the 3rd winter, one had a "buldge" so I thru that one away and bought 4 more like new for $80. Still running 2 of the 4 I paid $50 for.

Cool score(s). Yes, tires have date codes, if you're interested in knowing their age. Also, my experience with Ford trucks is that the ball joints seem to need replacing after a bit. Without solid ball joints, alignment really suffers. The new ones can be better quality than OEM and can have grease nipples. It's a good idea to check the tie rod end thingie on the pitman arm while you're in there. If that were to come all the way loose, your tie rods would become unattached to your steering column.

I always have good tires - bought new with good profile - on my rides, even the beaters. It is the only thing that connects the vehicle to the road. It may be the difference between hitting the brakes hard and clearing the object in the way or getting into an accident.

I've bought the last 2 sets of tires for my wifes Pathfinder on craigslist, both were new take offs, and both sets were around 300 bucks in 265/65/17 size, I love it when they do a lift right out of the showroom ;)

....yet to most folks, the tire's biggest job is to hold the wheels off the ground so they don't get curbed.
