2015 Boxster Rumors

New Details On next Porsche Boxster | Fastdrive Blog
Quote:
If Car Magazine’s sources are to be believed, a better generation Porsche Boxster 981 would be a completely new vehicle.

The third generation Boxster is claimed to have a brand new cab-forward design which features new and exciting lines that absolutely set it besides the present model. The automobile will longer be a coupon 911 if you happen to can’t afford the total-fat model. It’ll gain its own identity. It would also grow in size by 60mm in wheelbase, and 37mm in length. However the roof might be shorter by 10mm and front overhang may be cut to boot by 25mm.

The new model can be lighter, not by much, just 15 kg, but together with other tweaks here and there like uprated multi-link suspension and dual-clutch gearbox should make it even better handling-wise.

According to the sources, Porsche could also be developing a brand new flat-four engine with a displacement of two.5-litre which with some help from a twin-turbo system makes 360bhp and 347lb ft. But that remains far away. It’s planned for 2015. Until then, the present range of two.7 and three.4 liter flat-six units will power the Boxster, although with deep refinements for better performance and fuel consumption.

Project 981: the next Boxster in detail

The 981 is not an evolution of the current model but an all-new vehicle. Its cab-forward design has much crisper and sportier proportions, but is still easily recognised as a Boxster. The new look is reflected by a shift in the Boxster's dimensions.

......................When do we see the new Boxster?

While the new 911 is expected to debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Show, the next Boxster is scheduled to be unveiled in Detroit in January 2012.

Last time Porsche had a multi-car lineup, the three lines (911, 924/944 and 928) all had distinct but (I think) beautiful styles.
The current trends of small 911, 911, fat 911 and huge 911 seems to show a lack of imagination, or courage, or both

I had a 2.7 Boxster. It was a great car. Oceans of fun to drive, and a tough, comfortable commuter car that had nice trunk space. Frankly, more of a 'sports' car than my 997. 911 is really a GT car at this point.

That green hypothetical Cayman drawing looks awesome. Lets hope.....

If it is, then what's the 928 going to look like? The GT car will be under the 918? Dunno, but I think Porsche is getting ready to expand it's line-up

I did my own version of a mid-engined Porsche a while back, the 3/4 views need a lot of work though.

I'm not sure how they can go more Cab-Forward, people will not stand for less leg room. The only thing I can think of is they make the car wider, and put the occupants closer together so their feet are between the front wheels.

Right you are about leg room. I don't even drive the one we have. It's that uncomfortable. But it drives really well. I'd liked to have seen a "stretch version."

It would be cool if Porsche did a retro 356 along the lines of the New Beetle.

The future looks good. Porsche has never made a bad car with a 2.5 litre turbo 4 motor. In fact, the last one they made is still a trackday favorite today!

I took some spy photos today in downtown Ann Arbor. I don't think this is a 2015 car, most likely next years car undergoing some EPA test north of town.

These are the first cell phone pictures I have ever taken. A real pain in the arse figuring this all out. I even had the lens covered with friction tape (hockey stick tape) so the phone does not slip out of my hands. Therefore the first several pictures are all black, I was lucky this guy was stuck in traffic as long as he was.

The original non-shrunk photos are in the "DRAFTS" section of my LG Cosmos phone. Any tips on how to retrieve better quality photos are welcomed.

For now I sent the pictures from "Drafts" to "My Album" on-line (Picture & Video Messaging). From there I e-mailed them to myself.

The 981 is already done. It was designed at the same time as the 991, and the two platforms share some architecture from the windscreen-foward, just like the 996/986 and 987/997.

The spy photos out now are the 981. It has a distinct difference from the 986/987 in that the convertible top is a much sleeker shape, and the clamshell that opens to retract the top is gone- it is now one piece with the rear trunk lid. This makes the read lines of the car far better looking. The overhangs are shorter as well.
