A grown man steals the basketball from your 6 year old son twice, how do you react?

We went to the indoor water park for my kids 6 th b day this weekend. We were shooting baskets in our own little corner of the pool. There was a guy probably about my age with a few kids with him. They were roughhousing, and horsing around.
The guy was grabbing up every ball around him, and throwing baskets. The first time, my kid was going for the ball, and was touching it but did not really have it yet, but the guy snatched it from right under him. I let this one slide, did not really bother me too much but I thought what an inconsiderate jack off this guy was . Not 10 minutes later, he grabs a ball right out of my kid's hands. I mean, my kid already had both hands on the ball, and was swimming with it, the guy had to yank it from his hands. This is a 6 year old, not a teenager.
Instant Def-con 5. I am sure you know what my first thought was. Then I thought, maybe I should say something to the guy, but I was already hot under the collar, and thought what if he mouths off?. I chose to just leave the pool and get away from said jackass, and make the problem go away with the least amount of drama.
Would this set you off? I went back up to my room ,and I have to admit , I was dwelling on it for a while.

Better to defuse than add fuel. You did good. The guy probably wasn't mean, just totally clueless.

It's not worth giving the creep the satisfaction of confrontation.

I have a six year old. I could explain to him that the up was a jerk. It's not like asking candy from a baby that would just cry..... But, I do think that I would go have a talk with the guy depending on the circumstances.

Was it a true adult, like another kids dad? I can't imagine another dad taking the ball from a kid at a family place like that. Maybe was he with his parents? You know, special needs?

fastfredracing 01-22-2012 03:48 PM

Nope , grown man, I am assuming 40-45. Assuming he was playing with his own kids, but not sure. I fixed on the guy for a minute, and sized him up. Nothing abnormal about him I could tell, just a little obnoxious I guess, maybe he just got caught up in the moment.

Next time talk with the life guards. He was being way over the top and needed some "chill time" that the life guards can provide with out it getting difficult.

VaSteve 01-22-2012 03:53 PM

In that case I would have given him the "dude, seriously?" and let it be. He's probably a clueless tool.

masraum 01-22-2012 03:56 PM

I'd be pissed. I'm not sure what I'd do.

Some people are morons. If you called him on it, he probably wouldn't understand what the problem was. In his world view, he didn't "steal" anything - he was playing with kids. Some people just have an odd sense of what is fun. He probably is either a frustrated ex-athlete who never got over it, or was the kid who never got picked for the team and never got over that. It is amazing how many 5 year old kids are out there masquerading as adult 40 year olds...

Did everyone turn into politically correct weenies over the weekend?

You call him out infront of everyone really loud, if he lips off; you drift him.

Too many people need their ass kicked these days to smarten them up.

Don't mess with my kids....

You guys are nutz. If this happened on my watch, I would have been in the pool clothes on or whatever. Now, I'm gettin' a little long in the tooth to be jumping over fences in a single bound, but that's the way it went down when sch!it happened to my charges.

Never had to throw a punch. I guess just the violet approach sealed the deal.

I remember the time some jerkoff was tapping on the window of my teen daughter's bedroom window. I caught wind of that and chased that little dick for 15 minutes at a dead run. The thing is, I never even saw him. But I covered every street in the immediate area and the park as well.

I'm sure he saw me. Never saw the kid again. I think I heard he dropped out of school.

Nice work out too.

BeyGon 01-22-2012 04:33 PM

was there a chance the guy was just dumb, thought the ball was one his kids ball and took it away from the interloper?

Oh yes

You did the right thing.

enzo1 01-22-2012 06:33 PM

yes, you did the right thing but if he makes the mistake of touching or hurting your child in any way, well here's some inspiration.... notice this guy is inappropriate with his actions... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/268F5osfi8c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
