They are wonderful cars but if she isn't familiar with maintenance and repairs she might be best suited buying a certified preowned model from the local Mercedes dealer so she has a warranty. You could maybe help her negotiate that deal.

I'm always happy to help. In the case of a 2008-up C-Class, they are everywhere. So it might just be your best bet to arm yourself with the data I give you and negotiate a local deal. Or it's easy for me to buy one local-to-you and have you pick it up.

Don't be fooled by CPO Certified Pre-Owned programs. You can buy a warranty through any dealership, and most insurance agents, banks, credit unions, and websites. There's nothing wrong with the coverage a CPO car provides, but you're simply buying an expensive warranty. Do you buy the warranty at Best Buy on the electronics you buy? Or at Sears on the applicances you buy? If you buy a new car and the finance manager offers you extended coverage for $x,xxx do you take it? If yes, then CPO can be good for you. If no, then why is CPO any different?

Eric - she is in the DFW area. Looking at the mid twenties to spend. I haven't priced them. Can you get a good C class from 2008 to 2010 for low to mid twenty?

One week ago today at the DFW auction an "above average" 2009 MB C300 Steel Gray with 18K miles sold for what would end up being $25K through me.

But they are easy to come by. There should be a bunch of them at dealers in and around Dallas for similar deals. If not, let me know.

Here are a few pics of her. She played hoops for A&M. In fact, she plays every night for a few hours. Mostly pick-up games at the gym with guys. I would love to run with her but she would hurt me badly.

I can see her in a C class...

Friends off mine recently bought a 2009 C class and they love it. Lots of gadgets and the build quality is impressive. I had to show them how to adjust the head lights for normal driving. It's white and after seeing and driving this car I would certainly consider one for daily duties.

IMO You could even DIY this car. The oil filter is easily accesable and if you could get an affordable engine computer diag system it would be easy. Does such a thing exist? I know you can get software and a cable for a VAG car.

Eric can get you an 07 or 08 E350 for not much more than her budget and it's a lot more car. They might not have all the electronic gadgets that the comparatively newer designed C300, but I'd buy the slightly older E350 over the C300 every time.

Mike (and Mike), there's a 25% difference between a C300 and a E350, apples to apples, year, mileage, condition, etc. 2008 was the first year of the new C-class, and has proven to be a good car. Which is a better choice is a function of need and preference, although I agree that the E has a much more substantial feel on the road, and to the touch. Both are good choices for the money.

Remember, too, that Motion just bought a brand new 4 cylinder C class for around $30K, iirc
And he says he loves it. Def worth looking into.

Eric,
Looks like she sent you her cell number to discuss things. Mind you, that set of digits is highly sought after in the Metroplex I kid you not.

BTW - she speaks with a Russian accent and doesn't really understand the whole Pelican Parts thing. Just let her know we have known each other for many years from the Porsche community...

Lube:

In spite of her being an Aggie (my wife is a UT grad), let me step in.

In December we bought a 2009 C300 with a little less than 22,000 miles. The car still has the balkance of it's original warranty (4 yrs/50,000 miles). Unless I told you it was used, you would think it just came off the lot new. My wife loves the car, comfy, good power, nice gadgets etc.

We bought it from the dealer and got them to throw in free lifetime (once every 5k miles) oil and filter changes.

You can find them for a bit less outside of the dealers but I think with some good negotionations, you will be close and can get some extras thrown in.

We found ours via cars.com

We talked for a while tonight. She was going to visit the local MB dealer to get a feel. Sounds like she knows what she wants.
Very nice, smart young lady.

If I can help, I will. Whatever's best for her.
