Aimee doesn't seem all that odd to me, but then again, I grew up singing along to Pure Prairie League's "Aime" .

Just got off the phone with a co-worker named Kanada. Whatever you do don't pronounce it Canada. It's Kuh-NOD-uh. She sure let me know the first time I said her name wrong. I guess 40 years of correcting people puts her on edge about it.

My wife works at a major university and sees a lot of students. By the time these kids get to college they are really tired of the stupid names thier parents gave them.

I look over the manifests our clients sign so I see names of all kinds daily.

One that stands out is Melanie............

pronounced mel-ANE-ee. I like it but she corrected me the first time I spoke with her because I asked for MEL-an-ee.

Laquinta is a client as is Shawanda. I laugh to myself when I read the really odd ones.

Part of what I do is entering warrants into the State and Federal databases...I see some nice ones.

La-sha has come across the desk, as has Mr. (yea that's right his first name is Mr.), but the one that always makes me laugh is Aquanetta...nothing like naming your kid after 3rd rate hairspray :)

A local radio personality named his son after his grandmother Marion. Kids name is Noiram, Marion spelled backwards, but insists it is pronounced 'nah ree um'

Female has been used also.

Twin boys, Orangejello and Limejello (orange jello and Lime jello) Mom picked the names off of the hospital menu at the county hospital.

Holy cow, I have one in my own family!!!!

I have a recently born niece named Neaveh.

One guy in HS had his last name spelled backwards as his given first name.

On family had all the kids named after their narcissistic father, they were (no lie) Melvin III, Melvis, and little sister Melvia.

my niece teaches in an inner city school. She tells me that frankly some of the names are spelled that way because the traditional spellings are not ethnic.

My 19 year old is Jason, I found that one on a calendar. My first name is Talmadge. I got tired of helping people pronounce it after the slaughter so I go by Sandy now.

My daughter used to teach art at an inner city school. She had a 3rd grader Mista, his sister Ushanique a second grader, and bro Fella, a first grader.

Aimee is just the French version of Amy. Very common.

My wife came across a-a. Yep, "adasha". I think that would be terrifically cool as a stage name, or maybe a Bond girl, but a real-life, on-your-birth-certificate name? Give me a break. I really hope child protection services flags all those kinds of birth registrations.

I have a backwoods cousin with an odd one, her mom and dad combined their names, Bob and Hetta to give us the beautiful Bobetta. Poor girl.
