Award for worst "non traditional" name spelling...

This is the worst example of "non traditional" name spelling I can recall ever seeing...

Antwannette Thompson (from today's new)

What was the problem with "Antoinette"?

azasadny 01-25-2012 11:11 AM

Runner up is "Myrakyl" instead of "Miracle". This is a kid's name at my wife's school...

I heard a funny story about an aviation safety consultant right after the F-18 crashed into a local neighborhood. Basically, a Military Officer that was part of the investigation was introduced to the woman after he had read her bio. He mispronounced her name, Le-a. She had a fit and said " it's ledasha! the dash ain't silent".

azasadny 01-25-2012 11:32 AM

I've heard that story, too. These two examples are from the CNN website and my wife's school, so I know they are real... but unbelievable at the same time. What is wrong with the "traditional" spelling of these names? Nevermind the "made up" names that are prevalent now.

My future dog's name will be: Phydeux. (Fido) :D

BlueSkyJaunte 01-25-2012 11:37 AM

We have a fish named Ghoti.

Zeke 01-25-2012 11:40 AM

And I had a dog named Meat.

At least it wasn't "meeght."

Yeah, and people probably wondered what was wrong with the words like plough, or colour when Webster made his American dictionary.

Sure, and I hate it when they use shoppe.

It's ironic to me that I always pronounced azasadny "Sandy" in my mind, and he's complaining about non-traditional spellings of names.

red-beard 01-25-2012 11:53 AM

A kid in one of my buddies English class:

Amfany

Which is ironic because my buddies name was Tony...

That's "Za Sad Knee" in Polish!! Art is my first name, so I just combined them. I may start calling myself "Dartavian", that's my all-time favorite "made up" name!

M.D. Holloway 01-25-2012 11:54 AM

How about Mycall for Michael? Actually thats kinda cool...

Sure, you have cooler guns, a cooler car, and now I find out, a cooler name. Taz was still a wicked cool dog.

dzasadny would be too close to that wierd fastener name.

Noah930 01-25-2012 12:40 PM

Maybe the moms truly think that's how the names are spelled?

red-beard 01-25-2012 12:59 PM

In the case of Amfany, it was...

redstrosekNic 01-25-2012 01:06 PM

Just replace the letter "i" in names with "y". Thats it, now you're cool...

Zeke 01-25-2012 01:07 PM

My wife calls me "Butthead."

I call her "Beaver."

Flieger 01-25-2012 01:07 PM

I'm guessing that is a corruption of Anthony, which I guess is a corruption of Antonie? Or just Anglicised?

Flieger 01-25-2012 01:08 PM

One I had never seen before was Aimee.
