What's in a name????????
There was a kid here in elementary school who's first name was Orangejello. Yep that's right orange jello only it was pronounced O range ello with a long A. But you know, there's always room for (orange) jello!

My wife is a school teacher and I think I've heard the all but the two that she's mention recently are classics. How about La-A which is a girl's name pronounced "Ladasha". My wife's personal favor this year is a student's name spelled Vagina but I think it's pronounced Vigina.

Two more.....My first job back in the 90's was with Rockwell International and the Director's name was about Harry Wiener.
My wife reminded me of another student's name, GoGi which means "God's Gift"! |
Then there's the sweet tale of how a young gal got her name. It was a long tradition that the offspring was named for the first thing the dad saw upon leaving the tepee after being with the mom. One day the young gal was asking dad how it was she had her name, and he said, "so why do you ask, Two Dogs Fu**ing?"
All right, that's an old one, sorry :D |
Am at work and am entering "Emmaleigh"

Evidently many of the parents described in this thread are not just making names up.
I did a quick search and found several websites with "the most popular African- American girl's names". Looks more like a cultural trend than an accidental mis-spelling. Here are some examples provided by the website to pick from: Chantoya Daeshanda Daeshawna Daeshona Dashawna Davonte De-celleDeisha Denisha De-nossis Deshawna Devisha De-wanda Eleasha Eleesha Elesha Ellesha Ja'breic Ja-Cheyla Jacinta Jack-ee Jacquie Jada Jai'breon Jailah Jai'lysa Jaisyn Jai-Vonna Jaleasa Jaleesa Jalicia Ja-Lisa Jalissa Jamila Janeka Ja'Quaelah Jarrika Jasmeka Jatara Jataria Jatoria Javina Jelan Jovita J'vonte' Kaandra Kadisha Kaja Kala Kaleena Kalina Kalinda Kalindi Kalinna Kalisa Kalise Kalisha Kallyn Kalynda Kaneasha Kanita Karah Karysha Ka-Sean Kashawn Kasmira K'Brianey Keandra Keisha Kendria Kenya Keshila Keyna Khianna Khryssa Kiana KiayaKishanda Kishawn Kiyana Kolonda Koyana Kraystal K'rin Krislyn Lacrasha Lacrecia Lacresia Lacricia Lacrishia Ladaishia La-Dale Ladawn Ladawnah Ladona Ladonne La-fara LaJonel La-juana Lajuanna Lakasha Lakeitha LaKendria Laketta La-Keysha Lakitia Lakresha Lakyta Lamesha Lameshia Lanecia La-Neesa La-Neisha La-Neishah Laqueinta Laquenetta Laquetta Laquinda Laquitta La'Rae Larah Larhonda La-rhonda Lashane Lashanna Lashaune Lashaunta La'Shawn Lashawna Lashona La-Shonna La-sondra Lataesha Latanna Latasia Lataya Lateasia La-Teesha Lateia Lateica Laticia La-Ticia Latitia Latoiya Latona Latondra Latonia Latonna Latonya Latore Latoria Latorray Latoya Latreece Latreese La-trice Latrina Latrisha La-Verne La-Von Lavonn LaVonne La'Wanda La-wanda Lecia Lela Leonda LeRinda Lesia Letreece Llysha Louella L'Tanga Mabinty Machele Maurita Melcia Melea Mishon Monette Mylandra Nakida Nashawn Nashawna Natalie Necie Nikkya Nyesha Octavia Odessa Ordena Ornella Quanesha Quanesia Quansha Queisha Raca Rakesha Ramerra Rashawn Ra'shawn Rasheba Rashona Raven Rayhelle Redonna Renatta Renell Resaunna Re'shaun Reshaunda Reshawnda Rocellie Ronella Ronelle Ronice Roshawna Sakina Santianna Sapphire Saquina Seanna Secoiya Serena Shakeia Shakeina Shakia Shakina Shalesia Shalonna Shamecca Shandee Shandrice Shaneta Shanise Shanish Shannel Shantair Shantaya Shantel Shantese Shantewa Shantice Shantory Shaquand Shareese Sharise Sharisha Sharonda Sharrita Shashawn Shatoya Shauna Shaundra Shaunika Shawna Shawndriell Shawnika Shawntea Shekeia Shenice Sherece Sheree Shereece Shereen Sherilyn Sherise Shikia Shikita Shona Shonelle Shontal Shontaya Shontecia Siarah Stephonjia Tachell Taheisha Taisha Ta-Ja'e Takecia Takeisha Takira Takola Talasia Taleisha Talicia Ta-Lisa Tameca Tamecia Tamila T'Anay Tandi Tanesa Tanish Tany Tashaonda Tashelle Tashina Tasiya Tauni Tawanda Tawney Tawni Taye Tayshia Teana Teena Teja Tekeysia Teleisia Tenesha Teona Tia Tiana Tinecia Tinesha Tisha Tiyah T'kelah Tonya Toshelle Tracia Trae Tralena Traneise Travia Treina Tremelle Trina Trinika Trinique Tya Tyaishia Tychell Tye Tylena Tyneice Tyonna Tyshell Valeria Vantrice Velena VeNay Vertise Viera Vondra Vonnie Vontriece Wakeisha Wandalyn Whoopi Wilma Wygenia Wyndolyn Xaviera Yanika Yawna Yevette YoLanda Zaierra Zekia Zelda Zenalisa Zettica Zola |
