1991 325i...Any fun?

I have a chance to get one for $1500.

Would it be a fun track car?

I think I may be able to get it on a work trade.

Wonderful cars, well balanced, easy to work on, parts are cheap (compared to Porsche).

After Curtis has his first track days in his '89 E30, we'll be looking for another E30 with a manual gearbox. The "iS" is very desirable.

Fun cars, $1500 seems cheap.

I hope to test drive it this weekend.

Pics to follow, of course.

Give me a break, trekkor. You already passed me and my '89 325is in your Escort a few weeks ago at Thunderhill (as did Don, in his 964), and now you want to take it to the next level?

Seriously, E30's are incredibly fun track cars. Not fast, but extremely well balanced. The semi-trailing arm rear suspension makes lift throttle oversteer interesting, but not to the same level as a 911.

After the day at T-Hill, I've been looking more and more at the Spec E30 series. I figure it might be a way to go racing for a bit less money than it will take to get my '72T on the track.

For $1500, you probably can't go wrong. Do the timing belt ASAP, replace the C/A bushings, guibo, rear shock mounts, and have fun.

I've owned and tracked my car for a number of years now (never competitively), but I've learned a thing or two. Feel free to send me a PM.

Any updates on the 914?

Jim

It'll be a lot of fun. If you can get it at that price and if it's in halfway decent shape, you need to jump on it!

I liked it when it was new.

Sometimes I think of getting a MK1 VW Rabbit GTi (83-84). That would really rock.

They are a blast to drive and part are cheap compared to Porsche.

They can also be pretty quick with the right mods. My E30 project.

Oooops

I don't have time to get that motor in my 914 yet.
Maybe at the end of the month...

My son just bought one from RickV for $500.

I have been digging around online and to be honest, these seem like really fun cars and VERY affordable to maintain and upgrade.

Spec E30 race:

Back when I was turning wrenches we had this kid who would bring in his 325 about once a month with broken lifters every time. Some of the easiest money I ever made. Good times!

He was big into street racing and his parents had lots of money.

I would love to have a 325 if I ever found one at the right price.

Where are the lifters located on a 325 overhead cam engine?
