Troubles with Springsteen tickets....Again.....
A few years ago Ticketmaster screwed up with the sale of Springsteen tickets. They got in trouble for directing fans to their scalping site Ticketsnow.
Ticketmaster Faces Scalping Lawsuit in Canada, Blames Glitch For Springsteen Debacle | Music News | Rolling Stone Now, 3 years later its a big mess again. Their official statement is that the system got hacked by "sophisticated software from scalpers". Thousands of tickets showed up at StubHub minutes after sale started. Putting 6 concerts of one of Americas biggest artist for sale at the same moment is asking for troubles I would say... The merge between ticketmaster and LiveNation should never been allowed, as people get screwed and have no choice..... If you are a fan or just tired of ticketmaster, check this link and give it a "like !" Open Letter from Springsteen Nation | Facebook |

Market forces will make sure people do not get sodomized on ticket prices, service fees, or feed to print their own tickets at home.

The distribution monopoly currently in place won't be changed until the majority of the population stops purchasing media outright. I agree that gub'mint has no place micromanaging the business world, but it has a duty to create competition. Like a frog in the kettle, complete change or a lifetime of suffering. I'd like to have options in my lifetime. |

Both.
People complain that there's too much regulation, yet here's a perfect example of what happens when there is no regulation and no significant competition. Barring any other limiting factors, a corporation, being an amoral, self-serving entity, will do everything it can to maximize profit. So what do you do? A lot of people will gripe about it. Some will say "fuch that" and refuse to go to concerts (me), but most people will suck it up and pay. It appears to be working. Until a lot of people stop going to concerts, things won't change.

Ancient Greece had Mount Olympus with Zeus and the rest of the Gods. In the Middle Ages, we had the geocentric universe. And today, we have "self-regulating markets."

How are you supposed to be able to afford a $45 concert T-shirt with these high ticket prices?

The venue sales will go to the "producers" of entertainment, the public will stop attending live performances, the musicians will stop performing live, and interactive social culture will cease to exist. But just wait, Universal-World internet will soon be available with lifetime payment plans! |

I was living in Germany in 1988 when tix for the Monsters of Rock went on sale several mos. in advance. Back then it was common to camp out in front of the record store for hot concert tix. My sister got us tix for the second night at the Meadowlands. But after a few weeks they hadn't sold enough tix, so they canceled the second show, which left us scrambling for the bad tix left for the first night. We ended up sneaking into some great seats while only paying for the worst seats in the house. But that had to suck for the others.
