Need spoon opinions.
Looking to buy a .22 auto for target range use to keep up my skills. Considering Ruger MK II or III or a Browning Buckmark. I have never shot either one so looking for advice. Prices seem pretty close.
Thanks, Bernie P |

do you ever plan on moving up to a larger spoon, if so buy a 22 replica of the model that you want.
If not go to a indoor range that rents. bring a friend most won't rent to solo guys n gals there's a risk of one trying to off themselves ( cleanup on isle 4!)

I recently tested the Buckmark. It instantly felt just right in my hand. I'll be buying one soon.

Both excellent choices.... I prefer the buckmark, but I've got a few of its siblings in the safe.... Including its grand daddy...

I've got a stanless 5.5" bull barrel Mk II - had it for years. Recently bought a GSG1911. Both will get shot equally...

I shot in a pistol league for a couple years .22 & 45ACP 75% Of the .22's were Ruger Mark II Target pistols.
I have a Stainless MKII target, had it for 20 years. More than 8,000+ Rounds they are the standard which most are compared. They are great pistols ! Never tried a Buckmark, they look great.

I've got both.
The Ruger 22/45 (Mark III) for me has a couple of flaws, little hard to clean (stiff), grips(standard) are a little slim, mag takes a little more than a gentle "seat" to be proper, and your shooting hand may cause the magazine to not release when you hit the button due to it's design. (The bottom of your hand will inhibit magazine release due to curved design). It shoots very well (kept clean w/ a polished ramp) with no FTF, or FTE.Very Accurate. The Browning has (in my opinion) a better grip design and feels much more comfortable. Cleaning seems easier, Accuracy is similar, magazine action is much better, zero FTF or FTE. Trigger action is similar and can be adjusted with the spring. Clean w/ the polished ramp as well. Both are very good guns. This month I prefer the Browning. Anyone looking for a pretty new 22/45 Mark III? Karl 88 Targa |

Shot a rental (dirty and unloved) Browning at the range a couple weeks ago. Wow! Shot CCI Mini-Mag brick from 25 yds and it was so easy a cave man (me) could do it.

I would include the S&W Model 41 in your options ...
I like the Ruger Mark III. Stainless, fluted barrel ... ![]() ![]() And you have optics options too, as it comes with a full rail ... ![]() |

Another thing to add... These Browning - RimfireCentral.com Forums guys on rimfirecentral are a wealth of information on both the guns. They can also help with which model to buy too.

I have a Ruger MkII 5 inch bull barrel, it would be one of the last of my guns to go if I had to sell. Like said before, a little messed up in the cleaning dept but a must have for me. It is a tack driver

Both are excellent choices. There is also the old High Standard. Some insane prices on those old guns but they just shoot so nicely! I just really do not think you could go wrong with either the Ruger or the Browning. Have access to all three I just mentioned and I do not have a clear favorite other than the High Standard has an interesting family history and so would never go for any money.
I am not a fan of Smith, I do have one in the safe, but this goes to more personal choice. But they do make some nice revolvers! Now, let us include the revolver! Check out the Single Six from Ruger or find a .22lr from Colt. Get both cylinders (.22LR and .22MAG) and you have a VERY versitile little piece!

U can get a nice HS HD or Supermatic 101 for under $450. I am paticularily fond of those things.
I think the Browning is a better made spoon.

+ 1 on the High Standard. I've put a few thousand rounds through my Supermatic Trophy and it shoots flawlessly. I must admit that I feel more comfortable shooting my custom built ACE conversion. The Colt conversion kit sits on a light weight AR frame.

I have both.... My stainless govt target model stainless slab side Mark II is my favorite, as I have tweaked it a bit resulting in about a 1 pound trigger and customized grip. That said, my cheap bull barreled Buckmark is very capable of tight groups.
While I am not anal about cleaning guns (my IDPA competition Glock typically gets thousands of rounds thru it between cleanings ![]() The Ruger can be cleaned without tools while the Buckmark requires removing a couple small screws. You will be happy with either. My wife practicing in the hangar with the Ruger ![]() Buckmark ![]()

I also have a .22 conversion kit for my Glock..... while it is nice for cheap IDPA practice, it is not well suited to bullseye competition shooting from an accuracy and trigger standpoint.
