Anyone ever see the movie "12 Angry Men"?

targa911S 02-02-2012 10:11 AM

Sorry...not buying it. EVERY web page on the net says Solid Guitar. If Gibson says is it stands for solid guitar ..it's solid guitar.
what does gibson sg stand for - Google Search

Now THAT'S funny!

targa911S 02-02-2012 10:13 AM

Santa Claus told me it meant Satans Guitar.

ramonesfreak 02-03-2012 04:11 AM

Stupid Guitar. thats how i feel about my SG most of the time. Les liked guitars that stayed in tune while your playing them i think

john walker's workshop 02-03-2012 04:25 AM

i had one of those 20 years ago. it was kind of a flexy POS, so it was the designated shop guitar. had a nice welding wire loop on the headstock to hang on a nail on the wall. the neighbors would complain occasionally, so i guess they didn't like it either.

ramonesfreak 02-03-2012 04:34 AM

SG requires a very gentle left hand, a new bone nut and locking tuners and even then, its a difficult instrument to get along with on a stage

but there is something about them i love...the way you feel them vibrate in your rib cage, the light weight, and the fret board

targa911S 02-03-2012 04:40 AM

This had to be a challenge then...

That's Bonhams bass drum but yeah, at first glance looks weird.

I guess I must have the only SG that stays in tune with the stock tuners, and I play it HARD too..

seriously your rare. ive had problems from day one. im not the only one. they sometimes need a tone pro locking bridge and stop piece too. anything to stabilize them and free up any potential for string binding, both of which are SG known problems since the 60s on top of the flexible neck

i still love em though. i sold my last Les Paul back in the early 90's. too damn heavy for me

do you like the stock 498T in the bridge?

Yep, sounds awesome. Had to wax pot them though. Lots of noise.

i thought they are wax potted from factory. ive never taken my covers off but thats what i read.

i like mine too but only with fuzz or OD. i can really hear how bad it sounds clean when I play my rickenbacker or a fender. but with distortion, its awsome. i have found that messing with the pole pieces and angle and height makes a big difference with the 498 and clean sounds too and most people dont bother to try that before they blab away on youtube about how BB's or 57's are better.

Jared at Pelican Parts 02-03-2012 02:19 PM

Heh, my other amp is an original 1968 silverface Deluxe Reverb :D

ramonesfreak 02-03-2012 02:31 PM

nice. mines a 20 year old reissue with a red fang and JJ's. love hate relationship with that thing.

lately im drooling for a 3 monkeys amp ( check these out) or a victoria bassman clone or the new hand wired AC15...hahah. i could go on for an hour

His patents on recording technology are not as well known but are just as if not a more important contribution.

Wow, the guy invented the electric guitar and flew WWI sorties! Way to go Cap'n Eddie!!!

Well shoot, if everyone is going to brag about thier guitar I might as well get in on the act.

I just saw that you are using one of those vulcanized fiber Gibson headstock veneers. I did the same on mine. Block sand it with 600, then keep laying coats of lacquer. It will turn black eventually.

targa911S 02-04-2012 01:26 PM

looks similar to what Tobias did to my #1 thunderbird.

I believe WW1 Ace Eddie Rickenbacker was a 1st cousin of the Rickenbacker family who started (and still runs) the Rickenbacker Guitar Co in Santa Ana, CA.

The Rickenbacker guitar company was sold in 1953 to F.C. Hall a partner in Fender Sales with Leo Fender along with a couple of other guys. Leo considered this a treasonous act and along with the fact that Leo never did like Hall anyway led way to Leo and the other guys to push Hall out of the partnership paying him very little for his 25% of the sales company. The Hall family still owns and operates the Rickenbacker company today.
