A while back we had a smart watch thread where I poo-pooed all over the idea... "seriously you are too lazy to pull out your phone to check your texts?!?"

Just got a Samsung S3

Now where is my plate of crow?

Short but informative video about the bezel functions of a sports watch.

I'm sure most of us know this but I thought it may be helpful for our younger members.

Have a look at the Samurai or the Sumo.

Unless you need the 5x for a particular reason the 3HR is more than capable.. at half the price.

What I can tell differences are slightly more "modern" UI and most important the capability of downloading maps.. which the 3HR can do thru an app (free by the way).

There are multiple videos in youtube that I watched and they all agreed that unless you need something missing in the 3HR, upgrading to 5x is not worth it.

What the 5x is more capable is on the triathlon racing which has a special function when dressing up for the next stint like putting shoes for biking or running shoes for running,etc.. as well for ultra marathons lasting days... so yeah.. I don't care.

The 3HR I paid $300 brand new at Costco, this thing in amazon is listed for$699 cause its the titanum ed with sapphire glass.

If this is the incentive you need to get up an be active.. do it. There is no better investment than in your health.

Well if you want that particular stuff you'll probably want the 5x. But don't dismiss the older model yet..

I don't have any 'grail' watches anymore. Have owned my share of vintage Heuers, etc. but the prices have been ridiculous for several years and I've pretty much sold off everything. I've always been a fan of Seiko and was excited to see their so-called Re-Craft series come out. Fabulous looking 70s style watches with excellent Seiko mechanical movements at reasonable prices (actually, I think the chronographs in the series are quartz). What could go wrong?

Well, Seiko's marketing department could go wrong  They have jumped on board the Cartoon Watch bandwagon and made all of these beautiful watches in 150% scale compared to the 1970s watches they purport to be based on. These monstrosities are up to 44mm diameter! They look RIDICULOUS on the wrist. :( In the day, these type watches were typically about 38mm. Thanks, but no thanks Seiko.

I love the under-the-radar poor man's mechanical watches of the 70s and 80s. I currently wear a Cordura Sea Gull (like the one pictured). Found at a flea market by my brother for a few dollars and he gave it to me. It is the most accurate automatic watch I've owned. 17-jewel Swiss movement. Early 80s vintage.

I can't afford a Singer 911, not even the interior of one.
But I found some nice basketweave leather and made myself a "Singer-style" strap for my favorite driver's watch:

Ended up liking to so much that I made a few more:

Wife bought me this for our 29th anny. I liked Mr Jones Last Laugh but I like this better.

Source for straps?

I want one for my Heuer.

I have a modest wristwatch and pocketwatch collection, and do some of my own work on them, but I have yet to get one with a Valjoux 7751 movement.

I am currently working on an interesting one - a Concord (Edox) Geoscope, but this is not my "grail" just something interesting.

Below is shown my preferred embodiment of the 7751:
