So which end was sectioned? It has a lowlight front end and a late-model ass end.

A lowlight convertible is worth some bank.

What about that old targa in the background. There's bound to be a few bits on that worth salvaging.

Yes...this car is a curious mix of early & late styling features. There's a myth of sorts circulating around in the Karmann Ghia community about a few "transition" lowlights ('56 thru '59) that escaped from the factory at the end of the model run with the larger tail lights of the up-coming new body style. As far as I know, there's no documentation to back up this story. Could this car be one of these mythical hybrids...who knows?
The asking price was $5,500 or best offer and it was sold to a buyer in Germany who's planning a full restoration on it.
The front, the dash, the doors and the engine bay are all lowlight. The tail light area is obviously not, but the guy who checked it out didn't see any evidence of welding on the car. More will be known once the car is stripped for restoration.

Probably the way to do it would be to by a humble hard top with no rust and make a good car out of the two of them. The chassis number of course ending up on the good car.
