Sailing: Anybody know about Windrose22?

Looking at one in OKC. Basic questions: reputation, sailability, suitability for beginner, etc. Thanks.

I can't comment on the reputation of the Windrose 22, but it looks like it would be very similar to sailing a Catalina 22. From my experience, the Catalina 22 is a good boat, even for a beginner.

The Windrose 22 is not a bad boat but neither are so many other 22-23 footers on the market. I agree that the best value hands down on a used pocket cruiser is the Catalina 22. They produced over 10 thousand hulls since the early 70's and parts are available from Catalina Direct and the factory in Largo, Florida. You can pick up a "Cruising World" magazine and maybe they still have the section, "Another Opinion" where you can ask current owners of any model out there.

If your sailing in Oklahoma with the desire to trailer to the coast ensure you have a swing keel and retractable rudder model. When you look closely at the 22 foot pocket cruisers you do not find much variation in interior configuration, cockpit size, beam (width), draft, etc. Whatever model you end up with make sure you have a decent set of sails, dependable outboard (7.5 hp or greater) and you know what your doing!

Check out the Catalina 22's on CatalinaOwners.com - Home. Great website. In todays economy, the Catalina 22's reputation and sailing manners makes it a sought after model for resale. But, if you find the Windrose 22 to your liking it not a bad vessel either.

I have owned Catalina 25's and currently sail a Catalina 30 (Breezin II) in Lake Lanier, GA). I would be glad to offer some more pointers if needed.

Good luck in your searches
