Ya know how old men are grumpy. That turtle is probably upwards of 100.....just imagine how grumpy he would be if you shoved your hand in his home.

I really want to buy one that size and put it in the pond out back so I can observe the effect in the ecosystem.

I hand catch large bluegills in the springs. Chum 'em up wtih some vienna sausage or cheeze whiz and you can get 'em easy.

Stick my hand into an unknown hole? Nope... not in that muddy water. I admit that I have reached my hand into a hole in teh ocean, but that was grabbing the lobster in the hole, indicated by the antenna sticking out

I've done something similar with carp. I grew up living about 500 ft from a TVA lake and in the spring they would raise the lake level about a foot or two and the carp would move up into the shallow grassy areas and spawn/lay eggs, etc. (They would ten lower the lake and kill all the eggs). We would wade around in these areas and feel underwater for the carp and then grab them and wrestle them to the bank. It was harder than it sounds. Fun stuff. I also lost the end of a tennis shoe to a snapping turtle one time.

I saw a carp once in that lake that was over 6 feet long. Yikes.

I saw a carp once

In southern Missouri it is called "noodling." Why? I have no idea.
