What's a 2000 996 with 15K miles worth? Bike has been used on the track so has safety wire. I haven't seen the bike, but it's got a Sharkskin body kit and the stock body work is included. I'm just looking to have fun with this bike, so no worries about future value.

Only really bad for me is that it is yellow. LOL. How hard is it to get the same shade of red paint on the body panels? Can a good body shop match the red on my 900 SS well enough if I take a piece in?

It's got carbon Termis and ECU flash, slipper clutch, adjustable pegs and levers, carbon hear carbon there, with stock (revalved/tuned) suspension.

I'm I looking for trouble (potential maintenance issues) with this one if I can get it for $4300?
Yellow ... hmmm. Is it a basic 996 or an S? You might be better off just looking for a buyer looking for a yellow bike. Some guys just want to stand out more. If you really want to change it to red I would check out ducati.org forum | the home for ducati owners and enthusiasts. You might be able to pic up a set of OEM red plastics for it. Good luck!

8th digit in the VIN is "T" so per this page it is a 996S, right?:

Just saw something that said the "T" doesn't really indicate if it is a regular 996 or an S...only the title will. Haven't hear back from the owner yet, but I like the idea trading the body for a red one.

ETA: In the pictures I see Showa front forks and Ohlin rear shock...it's got the Marchesini wheels.

There are visual markers but most of these can be added. Carbon and Ohlins is going to be a major que. Title might be a good bet or run the VIN by a Ducati dealer. Curious to see some pics of it.

The guy said it has stock suspension, so the Showa fronts and Ohlin rears could mean it is an S, right? Waiting to hear back from seller. Might not be until tomorrow, but he's somewhat local so I may go see it tomorrow or Sunday. We'll see. Aside for the eagerness of buying another bike, I think it's probably worth 4500 if there aren't any issues with it that need major repair in the short term.

With the Sharkskin.

Other pictures make it look pretty clean. Doesn't look like it was ever down.

Looks like it is an "S" (has Ohlin shock and Marchesini wheels) judging from this author's description:

The version I experienced, a 2000 996 Biposto, is what one would consider the "base" model in that it had a Showa suspension front and back as opposed to an Ohlins-shock-equipped "S" model (which also has lighter wheels)

I think low 4's is about right. A clean, original non-raced bike would go for 5-6. Personally, I'd rather spend a bit more and have a clean original bike. They are out there. And the fact that it was raced means there are a lot of unknowns. Was is raced by a slow or fast guy? If by a fast guy, you can bet that the bike was thrashed every second it was on the track. Those are hard miles.

My 996 S has a numbered plate on the headstock Mine's a 99 so don't know if the
2000 is the same. I bought mine with 800 miles on it. It hasn't need anything but normal maintenance. Fall in love everytime I get on it
