Sold the SUV, now what...?

After 18 months of enjoying the BMW X5 Diesel, I decided it's time for something different. In stead of one "expensive" car, I thought it would be nice to get 2 little less expensive rides.

I really didn't like not having a pickup, and got to test drive a 2010 F150 a few days ago. I really like that truck. I actually went to the GM dealer to drive the Sierra, and ended up test driving the used F150. Think I will go for this as "car" number one.

As a second car, I can't make up my mind. It would be a semi-daily driver. Most of the driving would be in the pickup truck, but in the summer time the "second" car would be more used.

So we can either be sensible and get a used Mercedes C350 or find a cool 993. Maybe the 996 will fit better if its driven lots during the summer. The budget would be about $ 30-35K.

What would you do?

You can get a LOT of 996 for $30k. I've loved all three of mine, they're great cars.

There was a nice 2003 targa in the classifieds, he's asking 28k. I thought about it and then realized that I am clearing out all of my stuff and moving back to the city.

Absolutely!!!

I love 993s and hope to won one someday but the 996 is such a bargain these days that it shouldn't be overlooked. There are some specific problems with them so be sure to get a thorough PPI done by a trained Porsche tech before buying.

30K would even buy you a higher mile older 997. I would go 997 or 993 without hesitation. F150 is ok.

I did see that one. Have been lurking the buy and sell section for a few weeks now and did seen some nice cars. Not to big of a fan of the targa.

I would not buy for at least another 2 months or so until the weather gets a bit better. No way I am going to drive it in bad weather! Driving the X5 in the winter drove me nuts! Handling was great, but they gravel the roads here with 3/4" crush and larger rocks......

We (as me and my son) are restoring a 1978 coupe and actually can't wait to drive a Porsche again...The project will take at least another year or so.

For the 997 your right! There was one for about 35K.

Do you already have a Porsche? If not you have to get the 993 or 997. Becausse many of us here have more then one sport cars, I say get the Pick up. I for one can't live without a large truck or SUV. Thereis just something about driving them. As a matter of fact, I am in the market for an SUV. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Personally I buy the 993. I am still waiting for mine.

993 for fun

996 targa for cheaper fun; faster; touring; and an opening hatch just like Ferry always wanted in the 911

I just bought a 328xi coupe as a sporty awd daily driver. So far it's a great car and can handle nw winters. mid 20's to 30K will get you a low mileage car.

I can't believe this hasn't been suggested yet - a well setup 944?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Carry on~

I'll probably have my current 2003 996 C2 for sale within a month. Very nice Arctic Silver outside, nearly perfect black inside. Options include Litronic lights, navigation, Bose, PSM, suede headliner, Sport Classic wheels, and the neato Porsche crest embossed headrests. 84k, runs and drives great, it will have all of the recommended 90k service work done within the next few days.

Not in Canada, the 993's especially are high price items

rrental--This is one you should look at it when it comes up. Matt seems to have very nice vehicles and takes good care of them.
