Dave, where are you located? Can you get Clear in your area?

Not so good. I live on a private road and about 10 years ago we fought with Time Warner Cable to get any internet access on the street. I went to the City Council when they were renewing their contract and pointed out that we had paid a surcharge for years for internet access and they didn't want to wire our street. We eventually got something. I can access netflix just fine, and internet is not noticeably slow.

Your home connection is about 10x faster than my DSL....

I've tried all land line sources, Clearwire, Verizon, Frontier, Sprint, Comcast, being rural and at the end of a 1 mile private road just no one provides service within 10 miles of my house.

I'm really thinking cell phone is the way to go.

Here is the summary of over a years worth of Hughesnet speed tests. Very inconsistant, Note that only once did I get a peak of over 3 meg/sec down (I think it was at 2 a.m. when I got up from bed soley for doing testing) Everything else is under the 2.5 meg/sec line.

I had a nice consistant run for a while a year ago as you can see in the chart, then they'll "upgrade" something on their end and it'll go to crap again like it has the last 6 months.

As I said, Hughes really is poor.

Clear is an internet provider based on 3G/4G cellular. I plan to purchase one of their units as a backup system for our office internet. Normally I'd use a DSL line, but they do not offer DSL in our industrial park.

Use the map to see what service is available in your area.
