Most memorable concert you attended

For me, it was the closing of Winterland in San Francisco, on New Years, 1978/79. It started with a viewing of Animal House at 8PM, followed by the Blues Brothers, then New Riders of the Purple Sage.

Finally, the Grateful Dead started up with Sugar Magnolia at the stroke of midnight, and didn't finish until sunrise at 6AM. My friends and I were able to stay awake, thanks to, um, well, you know. Bill Graham served breakfast to a weary, happy crowd, then we went home. Ah, the good ol' days.

The Who. Shea stadium 1982 the Clash opened up for them.

Harry Chapin Garden State Art center 1980 His last concert in the area. I was only 16 at the time. I had tickets to see him again the following year, but he was killed a few days before the concert.

Every Jimmy Buffet concert has always been a great time also.

Aren't the best concerts the ones that you can't remember?

OK, there was that Jimmy Buffett concert I attended where the guy in the parking lot who sold me a ticket made me do a shot on the roof of his station wagon before handing the ticket over. I was in HS.

Loaded question with some that come to mind (pun): Early RUSH shows, Pink Floyd (Animals, Wall), S. Ray Vaughn R. Cray & Double Trouble jams, and the prime U2 and Pearl Jam shows. Sorry, but after those days no artist interest me now to hit a show.

Richie Hawtin and a litany of amazing DJ's at the Packard Plant, Detroit, early 90s. Underground parties before the word rave was even used, illegal as hell, and MFing fun. 3000 people dancing their ass off in an abandon factory with 10000 watts of sound and an amazing light rig.

Detroit Techno Tourist: Packard Plant | Beatportal

There were a pair of models that would show up. Really tall, beautiful girls. They would wear roller skates, and that made them even taller. Wearing nothing but short shorts and a bikini top, they would roller skate through the dancers. They didn't just skate, they slithered through. It was like watching Plasticman's sisters get their groove on in some intergalactic play about..........

........did I mention there were drugs involved?

A bowie concert back in the 70's. I was watching it for free through the fence and being watched by a bunch of securuty guards when a guy climbed the fence and over then suddenly about 50 of us were going over. Wow, what a way to get into a concert as a 17 year old with a head filled with adrenaline, marajuana and alcohol. Oh yes those were the days.

There've been so many. Hmmm.

I'm gonna say Springsteen on the Darkness on the Edge of Town tour... somewhere around the tenth row, pretty much in the center. Old school, 3200-seat concert hall here in town. So much fun.

I was about 12th in line to get tickets on the Monday morning they went on sale. Got there about an hour before the ticket window opened.

We could have another thread called "The One Concert You'd See Again If You Had Access to a Time Machine."

This would be it for me.

Man-Pop 1970.......... Stage was wiped out in a rain storm ......we moved from the stadium to the arena and Zeppelin played on the arena floor with a pieced together PA and gear. Other noted acts were The Youngbloods, The Ides of March, Iron Butterfly and Chilliwack.

Kiss "Unmasked Tour" November 18, 1980 - Adelaide Oval.

I was 15 at the time and it was my first live concert.

It was dry most of the day but just before the concert the wind picked up and it started to rain.
I'll never forget how Gene Simmon had to lean into the wind and rain to stop from falling over.

To their cred they put on a great show regardless.

From the Wiki page.

The Unmasked Tour was a 1980 concert tour by the hard rock group Kiss. It was the first tour not to feature original drummer Peter Criss, and the touring debut of his replacement Eric Carr. The Unmasked tour was the first time that Kiss only played in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, with only one show played in the United States, at the Palladium Theatre in New York. "Cold Gin" returned to the set for the first time since the Rock & Roll Over Tour,"You're All That I Want" was performed briefley, but was quickly dropped. "Strutter", which had not been performed live since the Destroyer Tour, returned to the set as well. Iron Maiden were the opening act for the European leg of the tour.[1][2]

This would be the last tour that Ace Frehley would perform with Kiss until the 1996 reunion tour.

Clapton, Bob Segar and Earth Wind & Fire - All great shows, almost forgot, Alice Cooper - Dead Babies, this Thread should have been about bad concerts cause every show I went to was good.

ZZ TOP - Hartford civic center, 1987.

I won a contest from a Radio station and took one of my buddies to ZZ TOP. The station sent a limo and picked up a total of 4 of us to go.

The other 2 had won a much bigger contest where they were flown to Florida for a concert, but somehow the entire thing was messed up. They we're not quote as happy as we were.

Any way, we get to the concert and met with the manager. There was a big argument between the other two and the manager about backstage passes. I tried calmng the situation down, and in the process, pulled out a box of Altoids. At the time, Altoids in the US were pretty rare. The manager , a woman, loved them and proceeded to take a few. Then she promised to see what she could do about the passes.

20 minutes into the concert, while in the front row, we were handed out back stage passes! It was pretty cool to meet the band afterwards. And the "party" back there was pretty darn cool.

I've been to about 100 Rush shows and a lot of them were magic. I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn with Jeff Beck in '89. But the VH show in '88 below, I had the worst tickets you could ever have and then found a stub on the ground in the men's room and it was 3rd row. My buddy also found a better one on the floor and got down there with me.
