Why would someone buy a turbo

Looking porsche and pay 30-40 thousand. Thats like buying a camaro ss all hoped up with a 6 cyclinder

930 slant nose 02-23-2012 03:36 PM

What?

Shadetree930 02-23-2012 03:40 PM

I think he is talking widebody 911 vs full-blooded 930.

Essentially the statement reads .... what is the point of paying a premium to have a widebody 911 and not having 930 performance?

Different stokes for some .... I think the widebody 911 is a great compromise for a lot of people.

It took me a while to translate your post, but I think I get it now.

You're asking why people will pay 30-40 for a turbo-look car? Why not just get a turbo for the same (or less) money?

930 slant nose 02-23-2012 03:43 PM

Why would you like to look fast and disappoint

vas930 02-23-2012 03:46 PM

Not everyone likes the lag you get with a turbo.
They may want the look with the NA feel.
Me, I love the lag and power.

cauzze looks is everything.

Schrup 02-23-2012 03:47 PM

Slant nose asking about fat bodies, gotta be some irony there.

930 slant nose 02-23-2012 03:48 PM

Yes you are right but they ask more than what a turbo goes for and besides you want a car that looks fast but no performance

Me too. I love the look on pasengers faces when you floor it and nothing really happens then....BAM....your passenger is getting pushed back in their seat saying "holy sh$t!!!"...

They were factory original cars and not many of them. Differences were primarily limited to the engine but in '87 and '88, the turbo-look cars had G-50s while the turbo still had a (stout) 4-speed.

BTW, chebby sold a LOT of REALLY slow, ill-handling, poor stopping Z/28s as well as all kinds of tarted up other Camaros...people bought all that were made.

vas930 02-23-2012 03:51 PM

No performance is a bit harsh.
Most people like the feel of NA engines.
A turbo car is harder to drive fast.

930 slant nose 02-23-2012 03:52 PM

its like buying a 190e you are buying a emblem not a car

+1

Modern tech has reduced the lag in these old cars and made them better.
However, they are still old cars. :)

930 slant nose 02-23-2012 03:56 PM

i also like a 911 but i dont like a 911 in a race car look i like sc with sc power i like wide body 930 with 930 power

vas930 02-23-2012 03:59 PM

Well, everyone has an opinion.
If thats wht you like, cool. :)

JavaBrewer 02-23-2012 03:59 PM

I would rather have the 930 performance in a normal body 911...call me crazy.

vas930 02-23-2012 04:06 PM

I have a little experience with superchargers. NO LAG. Why does Porsche not go that route?
