From the article (I added emphasis):

"The observers tracked the make, age, and conditions of cars, using them as a proxy for class. High-status vehicles such as Mercedes were considered the provenance of the rich, and those driving them were about three times more likely to cut in than those in less flashy cars."

While it makes for flashy and shocking headlines (the business of the news today, no?) this study is practically worthless. So they ASSumed that make/age and condition of cars is a proxy for class...so every person who drives a late model Mercedes is wealthy? I guess the people conducting the study haven't heard of low mileage leases and buying on credit.

There is a better indicator of those who lie, cheat and steal. Look at crime rates by geographical area and voter registration. Democrat areas overwhelmingly have higher rates of crime reported. The prison population which by definition is made up of those who lie, cheat and steal is also overwhelmingly Democrat.

I though another perspective might be called for on this thread.

Jacob - that was only one component of the study

This sort of input is perhaps more appropriate for PARF. If this discussion were another "us against them" dispute, I'd ask for the data you used in arriving at this conclusion, and I'd suggest you look at how liberalism is correlated with income, education and a host of other progressive characteristics. Southern states are notably more conservative, and also substantially poorer and less educated. For example.

This study doesn't work. If you read The Millionaire Next Door the most common car driven was a domestic car that was bought used not a Mercedes. Owning a Mercedes does not equal wealth.

Not by a long shot. Our glass house isn't stone resistant. Morally, we can't point the finger at everyone else until we stone proof our own digs.

It's a little of both and some of neither. There are rich folks who worked hard, worked smart, and reaped the rewards. There are some who chose their DNA well and only had to wait for the DNA donors to die. There are some who did indeed cheat and lie to get rich. In almost every case, money put them in a position of power, from which they could assure that the rules tended to keep them and their heirs wealthy.

Again, the article linked does not mention just what wealthy or rich means.

From the article:

“We’re definitely not suggesting that any upper-class person … is going to be less ethical than every lower-class person. You need to be cautious in terms of applying these findings to predict the behaviour of a single individual,”

I always paid cash for mine. I made the mistake of leasing a BMW (I am SO glad that POS is gone). When/if I decide I need something besides my pickup and my toys I'm gonna pay cash for a Camry or Accord.

If this website sells parts for high-end cars like in the study, then logic follows that it facilitates the behavior of these type of individuals through movement.

Then the following questions arise:

Does this forum and website facilitate the behavior of people that lie and cheat?

Do the vendors that advertise on the website empower the people that lie and cheat?

Does this mean that this forum and the website is a cause of this behavior?

Does this mean that by purchasing parts from this website that I'm helping a business that empower the people that lie and cheat?

Quite the conflict, eh Stephanie? Funny post...I dig your tongue in cheek.

Randy thinks he's on a roll, but he really should leave the class envy & hatred schtick to the professionals inside the beltway.

I agree, that is why they shouldn't be paying those additional taxes. Again, lets not confuse a net worth of a million with a salary of a million.

Rwebb, does the post below prove what you posted?

Thinking of trading in wife's Boxster to get a new car. CLS55 AMG anyone?

I think it proves just the opposite of what you believe.
