Looks to me that you have the equipment there to have better brakes. I assume you don't have the hidden disc set up inside those finned drums. Are the shoes properly arced and fitted? Not many people do good drum brake work anymore.

If you like, you can ship the drums and shoes to a company here.

Very nice. I like tho look. I'm more of a 60's car kind of guy, but I like these old rods too. I especially like the cool color scheme. I've always liked that pale yellow.

If I had the money for a real car collection, a deuce coupe and maybe a roadster would be in my warehouse. Old school all the way for me, I don't like modernised rods. They are a part of SoCal car culture history.

Did anyone see the "Mad Men" episode where Don was in a flashback to his SoCal days and met the guys building hot rods in the early '50s? It was excellent.

On the way to an Oscar-viewing party Sun. night, I saw this on Sunset as traffic crawled along. These are a little too *billet/Foose* for my taste but you have to give them major points for the American Graffiti influence. Talked to the guy in the '55, he said that the weather was nice so they just decided to take them out for a cruise. :cool:

Those wheels/tires look silly.

You can still look vintage and have good suspension/brakes/tires, just look at the yellow car in speeder's post. Not period correct but still looks cool (IMHO).

that's true and I understand what you're saying but I'd bet that yellow car and the OPs car handle and stop similarly. Roy Halladay's black one should be a different story...IFS, IRS, modern tires/brakes, low CG...all conspired to be a mutt of a car...also IMHO.

Thanks for the comments. I'd been jonesing for a '32 roadster for the better part of the last decade but this opportunity came up and I could not afford to let it get away. Especially since I had a small hand in the design phase of this build back in '05 or '06. Believe me, the base this was built on was nothing to write home about, other than being in relatively good condition.

Some specs:
Original '31 frame and shell (with well-hidden vintage rust damage to prove it)
1964 Buick 425ci Nailhead
6 Strombergs (only 2 are working... :rolleyes:) into Weiand intakes
Turbo Hydramatic 350 slushbox
More details on request. :)

The brakes are, indeed, discs under those So-Cal Speed Shop finned covers. However, braking is all relative. This one brakes fine for what it is. But discs on a '31 Ford cannot compare to discs on an '81 911. :D

I haven't yet gotten up the courage to uncork those bypass pipes. The full exhaust is loud enough to annoy the neighbors as it is. I'll try to post up something to Youtube soon.

Lee, Don, and the rest of the AZ crew: let me know when you plan to next be at the Pavilions. I'll see what I can do to meet up with you. And I won't bring the dirty Porsche. ;) :D

Oh, and for the roadster fans (like myself): check this out. I've hung out with this fine gent a few times at a couple shows. He's my hero. He hand built this roadster from an all-steel repop kit from the ground up, built the Lincoln V-12 mill as well. The V-12 gives me goosebumps when he fires it up! It runs like a Swiss watch (no small accomplishment) and howls like a P-51. The entire car is powder coated flat black.

A dream of mine is to someday own a chopped 33/34 3 window, Black, maybe even flamed, like the California Kid!

The '32 ford with the Hot Rod Lincoln V-12 is owned and built by Frenchy Dehoux. He is a legend in the VW Circle's. In the '70's he built many Bug-In winning show cars and is still building a lot of cool cars. Check out these two links, the second is his most recent build.

Remember the Fuchs deep 6's Lee traded to me a few years ago? I sold them to Frenchy. He had just began work on the Shrine. I delivered the wheels to him and only got a quick glance of the '52. Cool guy.
