Austin F1
Anybody, in the know, have any updates on Austin. Hope they make it work. NY and NJ too. We've got too many "nobody cares" character-less tracks now. Some new and real good tracks would be very welcome for a change. Only two and a half weeks to go.

JJ, you coming to Austin?
|
Sorry, two and a half wks to the start of F1 season, unless Bernie cancels it all.

I wish but I'm blowing all this year traveling money on next month 3 weeks in the South Pacific. But, Austin will be my next F1. I'm guessing that you will be there :) |

We're going to wait until next year and let them get the bugs out first. We drove by about 10 days ago and they really have a lot of work to do. I hope they get it done and wish them the best, but it sure looks like a tall order. The track is also out in the middle of nowhere and accessible only by a 2 lane road. Logistics are going to be an issue (not to mention some very expensive hotel rooms in some very modest hotels).
|
I didn't participate in the prebuy on tix.... I may regret that later. I'm thinking I'm going to pick up tix when they go on sale, and then if I don't end up getting to use them, I'll hock them somewhere.....
I should be working out of Houston at that time though, so a nice short drive... :D |
Yeah well Bernie has been making disparaging remarks towards Melboune's race saying today that it is the least viable race on the shedule. I think he makes more money in Asia and middle east and money making seems to be his thing.

I don't see how they can get construction finished before November.

Recent news from the area has nearby residents complaining about 24 hour construction and there was a critical injury to one of the construction workers on Tuesday. It does sound like they are trying to get it done. |
Now today, march 9, F1 news reports that construction is on schedule. Sure doesn't look like it. Shudda put Kinky Friedman on it. (Or Willie Nelson) At least it would be fun and if it never get done, make a good golf course for Willie.
|
They can easily finish by November if enough resources (and money) is brought to bear on it. They're fairly well along.
Second to last on the schedule. Meh. Vettel should have it all locked up by then, making the race a formality. I'm still planning on going (depending on work commitments) though... |

Can you really buy tickets yet?
I wanted to go before the V8s are gone. |
Tickets are kind of a fiasco.... You had to pay, to have the right to buy tickets in the first batch released, or some such nonsense.
|
Yeah, I'm not doing that. I'm buying a ticket. I'm not buying the right to buy a ticket.
|
Exactly. Im not forking over money till it gets me a damn ticket, and quite honestly not till its a little more certain there will be a race!
|
Have they even announced ticket pricing?
|
Given the problems they've had so far, how much work they have to complete before the first race, the pissing contest between Tavo Hellmund and everybody else, and the backpedaling by the state regarding the fees, I'd be surprised if this track ever makes it past the first couple events.
I know I'm not buying any tickets yet... JR |
I've never understood roadracing ticketing. The really expensive seats tend to be on the front straight away where you can see the pits and maybe one turn. I like to sit were I can see a couple of turns. I'll wait until regular grandstand tickets go on sale.

Any chance you have the same screen shot for hotel rates a week earlier or later?
|
Not one of those hotels is worth more than $100/night. Wow.
|
That's crazy! I thought hotel rooms in Montreal on F1 weekend were bad. I'll be sleeping on a friend's couch or floor :D

KOA anyone?
Jeebus, that's insane. |
No kidding. Ill be looking for a couch or a place to put my tent.
|
Just hope that one of the parties in court does not go for an injunction. if I was an attorney in this matter, that would be my tactic.
|
Those prices are just insane. And most of them are no where near the track!
Eff that, I'll sleep in a ditch before I pay those prices. |
Just heard on the radio here in Austin that tickets will go on sale this weekend and the prices range from $159 to $500.
I also thought I'd mention to anyone needing a place to stay, it could be feasible to have the run of my place, or at least sack out on the couch/floor/whereever. Hotel rooms are going to be hard to come by, I hear. My apartment is 1br (king) 1 bath, 800sq ft. Pets allowed, smoking allowed, in fact if you don't smoke, you may not like it. 10 miles to the airport, 12 miles to downtown, 2 miles to the toll road, and approximately 15 miles to the track. You will want to take the toll road to the track. Shopping less than a mile. Gated, pool, coeds, etc... So long as I keep my nose clean with the misses, I don't see a problem with a couple, a small family, or a few of you guys calling it home for awhile. I'm not interested in renting the place out, but rather hoping to provide a possible opportunity to enjoy the race weekend when otherwise it would not happen. Having said that, 9 of you can out roll sleeping bags if you want. It's but a small offering to a community that has afforded me much. |
Just saw the prices and yes that is very reasonable. The only thing that is keeping me from being a definite is the downright ridiculous hotel prices.
I just can't see myself paying that. |
Holly Caca... My last year 3 days Gold Tickets sitting on the starting line at a cost of $500 which is barely more than the lowest one night hotel price posted below :eek::eek: and the Poutine were less than $5
Luckily, my brother live there so it only cost me a case of beer :) Lots of people from the surrounding city up to 3 hrs away travel back and forth on daily basis. Kudos to vmattdavis11 and wife for his offer http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif |
Submitted my application to be volunteer "Race Steward" I have the experience required I'll see what happens.
|
Maybe I should rent out my three extra rooms for that weekend/week: heck, I'm only 30 minutes from the track. I have a buddy who also has extra rooms in his house...hmmm.
