Been a while since we've had a cigar thread I believe. This year I will be remarrying my beautiful wife of 13yrs (did the JP thing originally, now I want her to have the dress, cake etc...) I am thinking of going with the Rocky Patel/Drew Estates Java's for me and my groomsmen. But let me know what you think. Last time I asked for cigar advice from here, I could not of been happier with the results. Let me know what you would choose for this occasion and for what reasons. Also, let me know what your everyday stick of choice is and for what reasons (cost, flavor,etc..).

Will be tough to find a real one in the states, but they are my absolute favorite.

La Aurora are very nice.

I also like the Rocky Patel's but the cigar snobs turn there noses up at them.

My last purchase was a bundle of Rothschild Maduro 2nds.

Can't go wrong with Romeo y Julieta, Partagas, or Padilla.

Like wine, beer, or Scotch it is a very personal thing, one man's treasure is another man's trash.

La flor dominicana doesn't make a stick I don't like. The double ligero is a standard, but the airbender is a little milder. I got my hands on a first series factory press the other day....absolutely incredible. The more readily available factory press 4 us an outstanding smoke as well.

Rocky just let out a limited release, can't remember the name, but it came in numbered boxes of 100....very nice smoke. They had a drop dead gorgeous product rep for a while too...

HHI944, The sticks you got me for xmas gift exchange were perfect. Enjoyed them with my buddies while walking up and down Burbon St.

Cohiba, all the way.

Not a full bodied man, but I do like the Cusano Double Connecticut-18, the Macunado Maduro, and had a very satisfying Gurkha Double Maduro tonight, and like Don Tomas in general. On the Cuban side, with admittedly limited choices, Cohibas are up there.

Cohiba is a great cigar if you are a cigar smoker. If you are not (and some groomsmen may not be), the Cohiba and many other fine cigars are too strong for the infrequent smoker. A Cuban cigar, whilst a nice gesture is going to be much too strong for the novice. That's the nice thing about Davidoff family .... VERY mild.

Last thing you want is a green groomsman,http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/pukeface.gif ,it kinda takes the edge off the celebration.

EWWWWW..Cigar SMOKE STINKS UP THE PLACE, and they are BAD FOR U....
Now if you MUST...I have heard tell that Partagas Black Label and Excaliber Maduro No. 1's are nice and mild smokes...they say that the Partagas 150's were the best of the best..but since I don't partake of politically incorrect behavior I wouldn't know one from another....Swisher Sweets might be a nice economical way to go...?

I have a box (well, half a box now) of Cohiba Siglo VI that mysteriously found it's way into the states. I enjoy one on very special occasions, or if I need to bribe somebody. Otherwise I generally buy cigars in the Ashton line.

Same here, but I got a pretty good jones for them and quit about 14 months ago and I don't trust myself yet.

Thanks for all the input guys, can you give me an idea of what flavors you're getting off these sticks? Buttery, creamy, leather, earth etc...

Prior to this thread the other cigar I was thinking about purchasing was the 5Vegas Gold... Anyone have experience with this cigar? I would like to know your impression since I will be getting to try one next week from a free sampler that is being included in a recent Cigars Intl order I placed.

I think what I would really like to find (regardless of price) is a medium bodied cigar, preferably a Churchill or a torpedo size. Flavor wise, I would like something that has a NATURALLY sweet tip (not an over the top sweet like with flavored cigars). Strong cedar and leather notes,creamy with mild spice with a hint of earth/moss. I really don't want anything that is too floral or that has undertones of anise because I hate anise.

We do know the the Cohiba we buy here in the states legally are Dominican not Cuban right?

I like the Dominican cigars in general better than the rest... and Cohiba... but given a choice would still go with a Romeo y Julieta or La Aurora.

But of course $5 a stick is my budget... I see some of you boys are in the $10 range.

Rocky patel edicion unica that's it. Very nice and only about $8 retail....might be hard to find though....only 500 boxes made.

Drew Estates makes the Java for Rocky. They also make one called Tobac Especial coffee and chocolate notes but not as sweet as the Java, we sell a lot of them.

The best thing drew distributes, imo, is joya de Nicaragua. The dark corojo is exceptional

I have to say these are a sure thing. Sure they may be 'beginner' cigars but for folks who don't normally partake they are awesome. Quality that I think even a seasoned smoker would not turn down and accessible to beginners. I have not had a cigar in over 5 years but if I stumbled onto an occasion for one I would not hesitate to repeat this cigar.

IMO a cigar needs a side kick. May I also suggest something easy to acquire...The Glenlivet 12, or older... if you have the means.
