Enjoy the small things.

So home on a Friday night, wife is out with friends. Daughter at a sleepover and I am dying for a new old car.

Drink in hand, Ebay gives me this beautiful enjoyable moment:

"Up for auction a 1967 Triumph TR4 that we just purchased from the salvage auction. The odometer shows it to only have 8813 miles but we are not sure that is accurate".

Honestly, enjoy the little things in life.

Until the electrical system goes poof!

I know what you mean, Hugo, but I've learned the hard way and have sworn off Triumphs. Maybe you could start a bonfire tonite. Oh wait, the Triumph...muhahaha!

Pretty much worn out at 8817, so you wouldn't have much time to enjoy it.

I've had Triumphs, a TR4 (electric OD but non-IRS) and a TR250. Not much "there" there.

Step away from the mouse, especially if you have been drinking. Who knows what you might buy.

i've got a TR4...first car i ever restored, and i still have it. the one you're looking at would be a TR4A...with chrome mouldings/indicators on the front wings, a useless "power bulge" on the hood, and most likely IRS.

my TR4 is awesome...by far the biggest "chick magnet" car ive ever owned. (see pictures in my garage to the left)

fun for a weekend driver, but it seems like something from the stone-age when compared to other 1960's european cars (non-british).

i just found the car you're looking at. even though the TR4 has a separate frame, i'd walk away from that car as fast as possible. the body is toast. that's nothing more than a parts car...and even then it's pretty ratty.

the serial number shows it to be a non-overdrive car. The hood is toast, and that's the hard part to find on these cars. the doors are buckled and that would require replacing the inner and outer rockers, etc. essentially everything from the b-pillar forward would need to be seriously worked on.

pass.

But,

I'm not buying a triumph tonight. I'm going to look at a few cars this weekend including a 72 TR6 w/overdrive. I've been in Porsches and Alfas for as long as I can remember, want something out of the ordinary.

I'm far from drunk but it seems that your hatred gets the best of you. Perhaps you should be the one having a drink. In the meantime, I'm going to watch a movie. Take good care Mr. Constipated Patriot.

I've always loved the looks of the TR6, but my experience with a Spitfire soured me completely on the brand. I hope you have better luck.

For the guys who are scared of british cars electrical systems and whatnot...you do realize that you can replace the entire electrical system on a TR in about a day? I rewired everything, including adding electronic ignition on my TR4, and have put over 40K trouble-free miles on the car. They even make alternator conversion kits for the TR-series that allow a GM autozone alternator to work. (I didn't do that...I still have a generator/voltage regulator setup)
