My friend's daughter killed

I don't know the details of why the woman was driving the wrong way. I'm torn between anger at the driver and grief over Sarah's tragic death. Sarah was an extraordinary young woman. She was special and I grieve for her family, but what keeps tugging at me is that she was only 3 years older than my niece, also a beautiful, promising, sweet young woman. This kind of loss can happen to any of us. It kind of scares me. I'm a gnarly old fart whose had his day and I'm not afraid of dying but the thought of enduring the loss of young people like this is just too much ...

I understand. Most of the time I go through life thinking that death happens in its time or that those who die young deserve it. But when I'm slammed in the face with the reality that that just ISN'T SO - the innocent die young too - there is no rhyme, there is no reason. Life (and death) just IS. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Since I graduated in '09, two guys I went to school with have passed(one car crash, one alcohol poisoning). It really makes you think....
