This country has lost its way so badly it ain't funny. People used to pine for enterpreneurship opportunities, now most can't fathom doing it. Of course the tax and regulatory structure disincentivizes it too, but that's another discussion.

I kind of don't have a problem with it. We need idiots like her to illustrate the moral bankruptcy of the welfare state for do-gooders who think such programs actually help people. If you're gonna make rules for collecting food stamps, then those rules have to apply to everyone, not just the ones you like. AFAIK, welfare and food stamp eligibility is based on income and number of dependents, not net worth or checking account balance. Getting a one-time cash windfall doesn't qualify as a paying job. Maybe they look at taxable income at the end of the year and will be able to drop her that way.

That's what I would do. But running a business takes more energy, integrity, and intelligence than she appears to have. If she takes this advice she'd just burn through the 1/2 mil faster and be broke again sooner. She needs to take this opportunity to get some training and get a job. Some people are cut out to be employers, and some people are cut out to just do what they're told.
