three months!!! yeah three to get a permit
Jeez what the flock. There's nothing quite like being treated like a criminal. Three months to get a pistol permit here. I have got to move.
|
That's not all that bad. Here in Ct it was like 3 to 4 + the approx. $300.00 between class, fees, fees to fill out the fee form. You get the picture. But eventually got it.

Pretty common... OK is a shall issue state, which means they have 90days to find a reason not to issue the permit, or they have to issue you one.... From what I've heard, they take most of it. I'll let you know after April 21....

Try NYC.
|
My understanding is that PA is shall issue as well. $20 and up to 45 days to get a response. Depending on the county, that can be interpreted as 45 business or calendar days. PA also allows for open carry without a permit except in a city of first class (i.e. Philly...contain your laughter :) )
The above info is worth exactly what you paid for it. ;) |
Oh, and its $200 for a 10yr permit in OK....

maybe they have been reading your posts here

What permit?

I love AZ. No permits needed to purchase or carry, openly or concealed. Takes me 5 min. to buy a gun in a store. Great for that impulse buy.

Texas is great as well! Walked into an academy on a lunch break and walked out 15mins later with a glock 40. Took longer to pick out which model gun than it did to do the paperwork. God bless Texas!

Good info on the Calguns action. However, I was serious with my question. He may be talking about a permit to buy the gun. I had a friend in MA who wasn't a citizen and he had to do annual police station visits to keep a permit for a shotgun to go bird hunting ... George |
What happened to the Brady Bill? I thought there was a Federally mandated waiting period of a few days on handguns. At least there was when I bought a Beretta 92FS back when I lived in Vermont. Otherwise no gun control laws in that state...cash 'n carry.
|
If you don't have a carry permit, its 10-14 day wait here.
Its $50 and a 30 day wait for a carry permit. We are a 'shall issue' state, so there is no police discretion for non-felons. No training requirements, which frankly, I don't like. It wouldn't kill first time gun owners to sit through a 1 hour safety lecture. |

The libertarian in me is appalled at this. OTOH, I like the idea that someone has to be able demostrate they can hit a target at 15-25 feet to be able to have a carry permit. |

Exactly. The waiting period was only temporary until the NICS system was put into place.

Yea, I think he's talking about a permit to buy/own a gun, not concealed carry. NJ makes it very hard to get a gun. I've heard that they are trying to outlaw the sale of ammo including BBs.
To buy a gun here in TX takes about 30-45 mins for paperwork and a phone call for the background check. If you have a valid CHL then it takes as long as it takes you to pay. |
