I found it in my yard.

Super aggressive.
Very big and scary fangs.

Nope, don't think it's either of those.

Dead spider?

mikester 03-15-2012 09:39 PM

Dude, that thing requires artillery to take back your yard.

HHI944 03-15-2012 09:40 PM

Quick! Kill it with fire!

trekkor 03-15-2012 09:49 PM

Thing's like a land lobster.

Bear grylls would have carved a spear, stabbed it, built a fire, roasted it and eaten it...

A930Rocket 03-15-2012 10:02 PM

I don't know what it is, but it'd be dead shortly...

HHI944 03-15-2012 10:03 PM

30-30 should do the trick.

Male tarantula. Harmless to humans but fun to watch. Keep him around!

Takes him many years to get to that size, so if you don't like him in your yard, do him a favor and bring him to exile - don't stomp him.

Reminds me of last summer when I was living out on 400 acres in the mojave. The black widows used to crawl on me when I'd sleep. They'd be everywhere. I'd probably kill 4-5 black widows a day, no joke. I'd hear the tarantulas walking across the window sill/mini-blinds at night, too. I lived in an 18 foot RV out on a dry lake bed, south east of Edwards AFB. (A strange bucket list item of mine). I could go on and on about Mojave Greens, Black widows, Tarantulas, etc.

I was driving home one night...and there was one stop sign out of the middle of nowhere. You could literally see cars 5 miles away if there were any, but for some reason, I always stopped. Anyway, as I was pulling up to the stop sign, I saw what I thought were, honest to God, lobsters walking across the road. The lights of my headlights reflected off their backsides. There had to be 10 of them....Giant Desert Hairy Scorpions. They were almost a foot long each. I hopped out of my car to look at them, but it definitely creeped me out.

Talk about an experience living out there...

scorpions, spiders?

thanks for tonight's nightmare scenario..great. trek, i hate spiders. remind me i cant ever help you move.

trekkor 03-15-2012 11:13 PM

The spider had hair.

It was very fast and was attacking the stick I poking it with. ( go figure )

It was under a rock out by the road.
I left it alone and ran for it...

How big was that thing? There's nothing in the photos for scale reference... It looks like something that'd leave you with an awful nasty bite though.

ARVIN!!!! I haven't seen him in years!!!! Dude, he just wants to shake your hand! He is rather aggressive in that desire! Besides, he'll take care of small mice, insects, other things you don't like. Keep Arvin around, he's good people!

genrex 03-16-2012 02:23 AM

The Napa tourism industry will quickly sweep this under the rug.

Wolf spider

We have a smaller version of that guy around here known as "wolf" spiders. Ours are only about 1/2" to 1" in size but look just like the one you found. Generally harmless excpet that they will make you hurt yourself! The ones that I don't like are the black widows and brown recluse spiders. They definitely get stomped!

bell 03-16-2012 04:23 AM

Banana spiders are stupid fast......seen a few here.....so fast I could get pics lol

Rednine11 03-16-2012 04:30 AM
