How we view gun rights in Missouri
We take a different view of gun owners in Missouri.
State lawmakers consider laws to protect gun owners from employer bias By Elizabeth Crisp St. Louis Post-Dispatch staff Sun, 03/18/2012 - 8:07am JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Some Missouri lawmakers want to protect gun owners from any threat of workplace discrimination, just as state residents currently are protected for race, religion and gender. Legislation that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate against people because they own or use guns overwhelmingly passed the Missouri House before lawmakers left for spring break. For bill sponsor Wanda Brown, a Republican from Lincoln, the goal is simple: "We would never consider giving up our First Amendment (free speech) rights for a job. Why should we give up our Second Amendment rights?"

AZ passed a law recently that makes it illegal for an employer to ban employees from keeping guns in their cars while parked on company property. They can still ban you from carrying in the office, but not in your car. USAA has a big campus here and I've seen them searching cars at the gate. I wonder if they're still doing that. Some people are afraid to complain or make them employers aware that they're breaking the law for fear of getting fired for some other trumped-up reason.

There used to be a lot of advertising/gun sales/trading in the parking lot at work.
Guns (and the ads on the bulletion board) were banned from the property a few years ago. It is private property and I had little problem with it. Lots of gun owners there & the barter still goes on.

It's a fine line between the rights of private property owners and someone's right to not have the contents of their personal vehicle subject to someone else's rules. A lot of folks in AZ would have preferred to keep the "don't ask, don't tell" regime we used prior to this new law. But, as always happens, some company decides to get strict with vehicle searches and then folks start complaining to their state legislator. We can easily boycott restaurants and other businesses that post gunbusters signs out front. Actually, those signs don't even have the force of law in AZ, so I ignore them. But risking your job to do so ratchets things up a notch.

I was raised as a Air Force brat. Anytime I was going home they had the right to search my car as I drove on base. I had my car searched several times. They never found anything since there was nothing to find. The only choice was let them search or park off base and walk home.

I picked up a USA Today once, while traveling, and noticed a blurb about my hometown, St. Maries, Idaho. Apparently, a commissioner had proposed an ordinance requiring every household to have a gun, and ammunition for that gun. Really, probably unnecessary since most households already had guns. And plenty of ammo.

Sigh. Some of us can only dream.
The Godfather got a bill introduced to tax us $60 per handgun, per year.
