Virginia Military Institute

I can't exactly place the time my son Jack decided this was the college for him, but it did become a goal for him.

Not of my doing, trust me. I would have preferred he went to the other universities he was accepted into. I actually challenged his commitment to VMI, just to make sure. The Rat Line.

Not me.

He, like others have posted here concerning their wonderful children's appointments to USNI, West Point, etc, has told me he wants to make a difference, to serve, to seek a commission and face the winds.

So he sought his time and place, his course, his choice. He is in the Corp of Cadets, a long road ahead. Join me in wishing him well.

BIL went there. Tough place, but he will come out the better man. Best, it sounds like he is going in eyes wide open. CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats to your son. I think when kids have the desire to go to a place that is challenging they end up doing well. I'm sure being a grad from there will open doors.

Congrats. My son decided he wanted an ROTC scholarship and to serve when he was a junior in high school. Your son sounds motivated and mature. Good for him. It wasn't my choice for my kid but I couldn't be more proud of what he has accomplished and why. I'm sure you already feel that way.

Congratulations to you and your son. It's great to see your son continuing the tradition of military service! My son is going through ROTC and should be commissioned next year. Like you, I was glad to see my son wanting to serve for the right reasons.

While you may not agree with his choice, I'm sure you're proud of his choice. Best to you and your son, and I'm sure he'll make a fantastic leader of men.
