Our son's band won "Battle of the Bands"!

Our son Daniel's band "Dandelion Brigade" won this "battle of the bands" contest at Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac , MI yesterday!

Needless to say, we're very proud of him and his band! There were 60 bands scheduled to participate and I don't know how many were there, but it lasted all day yesterday. They won $650 to be applied to their studio time to complete their latest CD, which should allow them to complete it.

Dan plays bass and acoustic guitar, sings and writes some of their songs, Dominick plays the guitar, violin and writes songs, Zach plays the acoustic guitar and banjo and writes songs, Shana plays the chimes, keyboard, accordion sings, Brandon plays the drums and they all sing.

They're good kids and we are very happy that Dan and his friends enjoy playing their music and have found many local venues to play. They play coffee houses, street fairs, bars, etc... anywhere they can and people seem to really like their music. It's "alternative folk" and a commercial band that they sound a lot like is "Mumford and Sons".

Dan started playing the bass at our church on our worship team and he moved on to the electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, keyboard and singing, but all of the band members play multiple instruments, so it's getting hard to keep track...

Our daughter plays the cello and they recorded her to put a few tracks onto the CD, which really made her happy! I would post some pics, but the resize functions doesn't work on this forum any more, so I can't...

Thanks, guys!!! They have been playing together (most of them) for about 2 years now. Dan, Dom and Zach have been playing music together for more than 3 years ...

Is there a schedule posted somewhere, or a Facebook thing going? I'd like to see them live sometime.

Open Stage night at the Ark in Ann Arbor is a good deal if you can make it on down and get lucky enough to have your name drawn from the hat. I discovered Russ Glenn that way and take advantage of his local performances when I can.

Thanks, guys! Dandelion Brigade promotes their band via Facebook but I don't do Facebook. They have played an Ypsilanti coffee house recently. I think it's called the Ann Street Coffee House" or something similar...

Daniel plays a Fender P-Bass Lyte from 1987 that was my friend's and was never played until Dan got it. Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI set it up for him and it sounds great. Dan also plays the mandolin, piano (his 1st instrument), Schecter guitar, violin and drums (of course!). All of the kids in the band are very talented and they all play many instruments. I never know what I'm going to hear from the music room when they're practicing. They put a dulcimer in a song as well as different brass and woodwind instruments. Zack, the banjo and guitar platyer also plays the drums and he plays every other week at our old church.
