Have any of you'll used one of those small portable steam cleaning tools? Just wondering if they are any good. I have seen some advertized on tv. Now in a Car tool/ accessaries catalog.

They are a waste of money. The only things that really clean with steam are expensive system. The mini-handheld things are a joke. I tried cleaning a transmission with one and it basically did nothing.

I have a little McCullough one and I think it works pretty good. I've used it around the house for kitchen stuff and grout and I cleaned my 930 engine with it. There are certainly quicker ways to get it done but I was happy.

No, at home shows they hawk these steam pots that have a hose and attachments telling you that you can steam clean your shower with ease.

This is the one I am curious about from Griotsgarage.
Yeah, its pricey put if its as good as advertized.

The ones that work are pressurized, have large boilers and spray a mixture of 30% steam and 70% heated water. If the unit you're looking at does something like this, it may work. The cheapy thing I bought was handheld.

I bought a SteamFast SF-407 Steamer from Amazon a few months ago to help remove window tint from a car I had just bought. It worked well in that application. And I occasionally use it on car floor mats. The steam helps relax the backing and allow them to lay flat.

Other than that, it is pretty useless.
