Shout-out to Protomotive
Just took the Boxster down to Protomotive in Arkansas this week. They were able to tune my 3.4 for 50 more HP over the stock 996 program that was in the car. It seems that I am much more likely to get in trouble now
![]() Seriously, Todd at Protomotive really knows his stuff, and, apart from being the least accessible Porsche shop in the country, it was a great experience. He was able to tune the car for all of the different components (Cayman airbox, Fabspeed exhaust, etc.), and it runs beautifully. Interestingly, on the drive back, the extra HP didn't really affect the mileage at all. This is now that car that I've always wanted - mid-engine, light, tons of power. If you're in the middle of the country and want to get the most out of your car, I recommend contacting Protomotive.

Interesting, I read something I think which is similar recently.
Quote: About the tune... I live near Seattle and a local shop here (Outback Automotive) does custom Subaru tunes for $325 to perfect the A/F ratio map. On bone stock turbo Subarus the shop commonly sees a 10% gain in power and a 20% increase in fuel mileage. END OF QUOTE. Is this similar to what Promotive did with your Boxster? Air/Fuel ratios? What else?

The big issue was that I had such a mis-mash of parts after the 3.4 conversion that the stock program was way off, including A/F. Additionally, I'm running without cats/O2 sensors, and Todd at Protomotive told me that the older cars cannot "learn" without those. I believe they changed a lot of things - A/F, ignition, cam timing, etc, so that the car is tuned for all of the components now in it.
The "downside" is that I can't change any components now without getting another tune, but given that's it's got a Cayman intake and a Fabspeed exhaust, I'm not sure what or why I would change.

They're 45 miles from me (don't know much about them though, I'm more interested in bikes than cars). Stop by if you get this way again.

Congrats on getting it running the way you like it. It's been awhile!
