scissor lift question
Hi,
Looking in to a scissor lift but I have a question about adapting it for motorcycle use and for lifting my Formula Vee race car.  Has anyone built a table or otherwise modified one of these units like the Bendpack to hold a motorcycle? A table type surface would also work to lift my Formula Vee.

Most scissor lifts have four adjustable lift arms. These arms slide forward and back at least 12-14 inches and pivot in and out so there is quite a bit of flexibility there. Will easily adapt to your open wheel car but I have no idea about a bike.

I built a box around mine. 2X6's for the sides with 3/4" plywood top. Primed then painted it Enamel High Gloss Hazard Yellow. Might add black diagonal striping for coolness factor. Put the bike on it (you might have to have a little ramp to drive or push the bike or the vee car on it), press the button. Voila!
When not in use I can still drive over it with the SUV. When needed to work on the p-car, remove the box, put the lift pads on, push the button and Voila! Works great for working on lawnmowers, snowblowers, bicycles, furniture, etc. I also use mine for a lift to lift heavy stuff into the back of the pickup. Just back the truck up to it, push the button and-you guessed it-Voila! I get snow and slush and salt crap in winter so I put a garage door bottom seal that comes in a roll around it. It works OK but sometimes I have to raise the lift for a day or two to dry out the floor under the box in winter. |

That's not a car lift the cute kid is standing on, it's a small commercial scissor-lift table.
I used to R&D and build production prototypes of these tables many years ago, it's just a steel tabletop. Also note that it's running on an angle iron base. I'd guess that's about a 4000lb capacity, a baby...company I worked made that size up to about 160 ton. I had a hand on this one.
