Wishing for the good ole days.

I was doing some searching for a thread I posted over 10 years ago and noticed my comment that I was going to wait to fill up until gas prices came down from $1.80 a gallon. This was 2001. Oh man, didn't know how good I had it.

Before you know it you are going to be looking back and saying that,"I just didn't know how good I had it in 2012."

You know what happens when a motot throws a Rod through the Block..that is what is going to happen to the US and the Global economy.

My Dad, (born in 1903) used to say, "Anyone who talks about 'the good old days', wasn't there."

Of course this man married in 1930 and raised most of his family through the depression, so his viewpoint may have been different from yours.

Yep. The good old days are just the cherry picked memories of the good times and the deliberate forgetting of the bad things. I was a Air Force brat that moved a lot. I went to 11 different schools from 1st grade to 12 grade. Not one of them was air conditioned.

SSI's are still great. I'm amazed how quick it still feels. I did cap one of my dual exhausts. As I got older the sound got louder. Still can't believe I was complaining about buck eighty gas.

Just move to Iran. Gas is 37 cents a gallon today. Was just reading an article about the various ways that countries either tax or subsidize the price of fuel. 50 cents a gallon in Bolivia and $9.00 a gallon in England. Crazy.

It's still pretty cheap here, the price just swings around more than it used to.

Les,

My Father came 15 years after yours. His idea of the good ole days was the '50s. Survived The War, missed Korea, started working at Boeing.

His family survived the depression by gleaning the fields, odd jobs, one shell one animal, grow what you could, trade how you could, and work hard and save.

He almost bought a Ferrari in 1964 but Mother wanted a new Plymouth. Needed a four door for the second car...

Fact is: Gas prices double every 10 years:
1970: 25 cents
1980: 50 cents
1990: $1.-
2000: $2.-
2010: $4.-

Therfore:
2020: $8.- And that is only 8 years away!

And also it is a fact that Europeans always pay twice as much for Gas. They do now pay $8.- per gallon. Somehow they figue out how to live with it. So, let's get used to $8.-/gallon prices here soon!

The more gas prices go up the more I walk and/or use public transportation. How can you beat it? Here in Los Angeles, seniors pay a quarter per ride in the off hours!
