Got pulled over by a Deputy last night
For the first time in 22 years I got pulled over by a Peace Officer while driving Ruby. I knew it was going to happen when he pulled up next to me, rolled down his window and shook his head. The culprit, my M&K sport muffler. The first thing he said to me was, “your car is so loud that I could not even hear myself think.”
He asked if I had any paperwork authorizing the aftermarket exhaust especially with the noise level. Of course I don’t and especially running Weber’s I am not exactly a model ARB citizen. It turned out he was sort of a gear head and appreciated the car more than giving me a ticket which I truly appreciated! He gave me two warnings, one for the exhaust and the other for not having a front license plate. I have one beef about the noise level and wonder why more Harley bikes don’t get pulled over? Pic of the culprit with her K9 sidekick

Harleys have a free pass because its an American motorbike. Total BS, and I hate loud Harleys, but thats the way it is. Warnings! Nice!

If noise makes things safer, make everything noisier.
I hate loud bikes.

front license plates are teh dumb, too. As if anyone can read backwards in their rearviews anyways. Just an excuse to force you to buy something from the state.

I see so many cars in CA with no license plates at all. How does someone get in trouble for only having a rear plate?

No license plate can mean a recent purchase. The only state I know of that doesn't issue temporary paper tags is CA, there may be others. If/when I get a photoradar ticket, the plates will come off.

It was just a verbal warning that if a CHP would have pulled me over, the story would be different.

Reflective vests and flashing lights on mandatory helmets make bikes safer too...
lame excuse.

I do not fully agree with this.
All the noise is behind the bike; it's not going to alert anyone ahead of you. Every time I've been in a close-call, it's been from someone turning IN FRONT of me; be it from the opposite lane or them pulling out from a stop. Needing loud pipes for safety is a cop-out.

Bright lightheads save lives, not noise. Noise just makes the general public hate motorcyclists, which gets the government and police involved in our hobby. No thanks.

Bull Shyte!
My motorcycle has mufflers and the frigging Harleys should have to follow the same laws that the same of us have to! Agree with Motion! If "loud is good" then why have mufflers on anything? Cars, trucks or bikes? Pure BS!

So if he replaces the Porsche crest on the hood with a Harley Davidson emblem of Ruby he should be good to go!
![]() I'll leave it up to the driver to determine if leather riding chaps are necessary too. Ruby looks like a nice one BTW! The front license plate requirement is an odd one. It seems to vary depending upon state (with more states requiring it than not). It would be nice just to satisfy curiosity if someone knew the true reason for requiring the license plate in the front and could tell us. |
