How to get rid of chipmunks.

That should have been a question.
They're over running my gardens! To Hades with the Hav-a Heart traps....they suck. I want these rats dead, dead, dead!

Baited traps and a pellet gun. I HAD ground squirrel problems. Not anymore and it was fun getting rid of the dang things.

RWebb 04-06-2012 11:42 AM

get a pet badger

also good at removing unwanted cats owned by your neighbor, obnoxious children, etc.

Pellet gun works fine.

Rusty Heap 04-06-2012 01:21 PM

"they're overrunning your gardens?"

so put up some fencing like chicken wire.

Geezus, I have deer to worry about eating everything in sight, and you're whinning about chipmunks?

Rick V 04-06-2012 01:38 PM

I just went through this about a month ago, this stuff worked great.

You can try and sprinkle some bloodmeal around the yard and that sometimes repels rodents. You can add some cayanne pepper in the mix (buy big bag at international markets) and that also helps. Realistically you need a predator more than you need a repellant.

IED. Sit on the porch with a beer and camera. When they come, phone it in, post it on youtube, make money off the advertisements.

Rat traps should work.

flatbutt 04-07-2012 04:06 AM

I tried chipper dipping...nada.

They,ve burrowed everywhere so the pepper trick won't work.

Maybe M80s in the burrow entrance?

jhg41977 04-07-2012 05:43 AM

Try animal urine (cat, fox etc) makes it seem like there is a predator there. We feed them peanuts on our deck. Our cats are indoor only (fischer cats in the area) so the love to sit and watch the squirrels eat. We get 4-8 of them at a time running on and off the deck.

Rednine11 04-07-2012 05:52 AM

I hope you are kidding & don't really think chicken wire would keep chipmunks out.

I have a chipmunk problem too. In my case, they dig tunnels which cause my brick sidewalk to collapse. My next-door-neighbor's cat helps somewhat, but not enough.

lane912 04-07-2012 09:26 AM

one gram of c-4 wired to a piezo electric pressure switch placed in the hole-

flipper35 04-07-2012 10:15 AM

Run a hose from your exhaust into the holes. Solved our rodent problem for many months when we lived in CA. In WI we had a competition with the dog to see who could get the most. The dog usually won.

Jim is right, schnauzer is the way to go. sometimes you need the larger version.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333827137.jpg

We had an armadillo that lived under our FLorida house. Somebody told me to piss in the hole, which I did faithfully every night. He never left and my neighbors thought I was some kind of crazy old man, which of course I am.

Hugh R 04-07-2012 07:23 PM

I've heard chewing gum is good for gophers, they can't digest it. I need to buy a pack or two of gum.

targa911S 04-07-2012 07:33 PM

I iced my first groundhog of the season today. 22-250 @ 100 + yards. The first kill for the new Winchester model 70 featherweight too. It took only 4 shots to zero it, and then a hog first day out. I'm thinking this is the quit possibly the perfect gun.

Evans, Marv 04-07-2012 09:14 PM

Hugh, I tried the chewing gum thing. Put it down the hole. Used gloves to keep my scent off. The next morning I found the hole filled with dirt pushed up from below, and the piece of gum was on the top of the dirt. I bought 2 packs - Juicy Fruit (which didn't taste like it did years ago), and another flavor. I chewed them up myself. They did the same thing with the round poison pellets - backfilled the hole & the pellets were on top of the dirt.

hmmm...since I'm currently taking antibiotics that might work even better.

cashflyer 04-08-2012 06:58 AM

Are they any worse than gophers?
You could call Carl for some pointers.

Evans, Marv 04-08-2012 03:15 PM

I ordered a container of that fox & bobcat urine powder. I'm anxious to see how it works with the gophers in the yard & mice in my pump house. Coincidentally we saw a bobcat in the back yard this morning about 8:30. First one we've seen in almost a year. It didn't pee anywhere & didn't stop to catch any mice or gophers. Too bad. It was a really beautiful, adult, and healthy looking cat.

stevej37 04-08-2012 03:51 PM

If you have a gopher (which burrows in the ground), you can easily catch them with a gallon milk jug filled with water. When seeing one entering his hole, set the full jug upside down on the hole until empty. The gopher will end up in the jug when empty. Works every time, for me.

Hugh R 04-08-2012 04:01 PM

Gopher in a Jug, I gotta try that.
