Back to Back - the best team on ice

The Vancouver Canucks did it again, like I knew they would, and won the Presidents Trophy for the second year in a row. We have L A in the first round and I can't wait, we're healthy and have 2 great goalies, we have a real good shot at the cup again this year.
Who's your team and how do you figure they'll do?
Finn

Eric Coffey 04-08-2012 01:51 PM

Our desert dogs (Coyotes) aren't doing too bad this season either. Fist round should be interesting (Blackhawks).

Porsche-O-Phile 04-08-2012 02:29 PM

I don't really follow hockey, but wasn't that the team that got their butts handed to them by the Bruins last year prompting the peaceful, classy citizens of the cosmopolitan metropolis of Vancouver to burn half the city to the ground? I vaguely recall something about that in the news...

recycled sixtie 04-08-2012 02:37 PM

Well your Canucks stuck it our Oilers. That's fine. May the best team win. Well the Oilers get to play golf now if the recent snow would go away. In the meantime the Masters Golf is my fave. game. If the Canucks win the Stanley Cup, there will be no living with you.If they don't , there should be no riots - in theory anyway. Sounds like win win to me!Enjoy the ride. :)

"Back to Back - the best team on ice"

Gee, that's funny, I thought that the best team was based on the one that won the Stanley Cup. Show me Second Place and I'll show you First Loser. Now, who was it that won the cup last year? Oh yeah, now I remember

Por_sha911 04-08-2012 03:50 PM

I will say that based on last year's finals, the Canucks should do very well in the Olympics this summer

Brian 162 04-08-2012 05:17 PM

How about the worst team. It has to be the Leafs. They are the only team that hasn't made the playoffs since the lockout in 2004.
I am looking forward to the playoffs. You can't predict the first round.Last year was in my opinion the best playoff hockey in years.

Por_sha911 04-08-2012 05:25 PM

I know this is off the thread topic but I've always wanted to ask...why is the Toronto Maple Leafs logo blue? I thought maple leaves would be red?

Cdnone1 04-08-2012 10:05 PM

Why is it spelled Leafs when the plural of leaf is leaves?
Steve

Steve, it's a Canadian thing, kinda like the way we spell cheque and metre, we could tell you but then we'd have to kill you.SmileWavy (of course that should be in green)

Joe, see my response to Steve. lol
Just guess'in now but mabe the Canadians took red first, then with the Red Wings it would have been to confusing with the original 6 if 3 teams were red, another thought might be because of the British flag being blue????? we got the Maple leaf flag in 67 with our independence. I think that was the last year the Leafs won the cup - did we get the maple leaf flag cause the leafs won?
Finn

s_morrison57 04-09-2012 04:35 AM

Jeez - lots of Boston support around here, thats good, I like team faithfulness, we'll just have to wait and see who has to sign off with "I love Gary Bettman" this year.
Finn

billybek 04-09-2012 05:35 AM

Calgary.
...... No, wait for next year. They were far too busy thinking about golf to give a rats ass about a stretch drive.....
Who ever wins, it will be a riot!

Riots on LA streets as Lakers WIN NBA basketball championship | Mail Online)
Maybe that is just a basketball thing and probably because it was invented by a Canadian!;))
Edit: Forgot a team that is actually in the playoffs.
Maybe St. Louis this year. Stingy defense, two pretty consistent goalies.
Would like to see Ottawa do well.

Christien 04-09-2012 07:43 AM

I haven't watched any of the regular season. Too many games. But the post-season is where I get interested. We'll see if Vancouver get keep it up through all 4 rounds, not just 3 this year.

The team that wins is the best team. However the longer u play the more the concussions, the sooner u get dementia of some kind. Maybe it helps to be demented to be an NHL player in the first place. You have got to want to do it. Look at Sidney Crosby - gets hit all the time. Then there is Gretzky who seemed never to get hit. Go figure. Anyway I will definitely watch the final game. I could not imagine an NHL player's life.
Game on !

1990C4S 04-09-2012 09:30 AM

The President's Cup is not what most players aspire to, and therefore the fans shouldn't make too much of it either.

However, my guess is that when the cup is awarded that will be all you have to hang your hat on.

s_morrison57 04-09-2012 03:00 PM

1990c4s, always wondered why you loved gary bettman, I signed that in my signature because I lost a bet with Joe last year, personally I'd like to see him gone - years ago. Enlighten me on reason.

Hey what good is it being a fan if you can't have a little friendly trash talk?

s_morrison57 04-10-2012 05:07 AM

Joe, so true about the trash talk.
1990C4S, I was hoping you'd say something like that.

The first round is always entertaining, all the rounds are but this year we have some real good match ups, Pens/Flyers comes to mind, this will be a tough series and whoever wins will probably burn alot of gas doing it. Of all the possible teams for the Canucks to meet in the first round the Kings are my last pick, Johnny Quick is on fire and they have a great PP defence, the upside is that Danny Sedin is back, coach "V" says he will be looked at on game day but his brother Hank says he's 100%, this is a good thing, for hockey and for Canuck fans.

Glad to see/hear you boys back at it again now that the real season starts! Looking forward to this. Go Canucks

Urban Dictionary: sedin sisters
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334115073.jpg

"With his offensive skill the prime component of his game, Henrik is known to avoid initiating contact with opposing players. Early in their career, he and Daniel were knocked off the puck easily, leading many in the media to refer to them as the "Sedin Sisters"."

s_morrison57 04-11-2012 05:09 AM

Joe, we used to call them the sisters too, but not for a bunch of years now, they're just too good for that handle. You-tube, swedish twins, check it out for a good laugh.

Back on topic.
As much as I would love to see a Canadian team win the cup, Vancouver embarrassed all of Canada with their riots last year.
I'd rather see them get put out in the first round.
Just saying .......

May the best behaved city's fans have their team win. Vancouver does not deserve that accolade. Have they even finished prosecuting the offending rioters from the loss to the Boston Bruins? Sheesh! Drop the puck asap and let's get to the final game. I love our police forces. I have no use for property damage. Hit those rioters hard. Emasculate them or feed them to the sharks:)

flatbutt 04-11-2012 08:16 AM

I just hope my guys survive the first round. We haven't done that in years.

They play the weakest team in the playoffs. They should win.

So you are discounting Ottawa's chances? I will not be shocked if they knock Boston off.

Not that I believe the Sen's have a snowball's chance....

Phoenix is unlikely to riot. Unless the team stays for another season.
