Calling Dr Dogface or a Vet...My Dog has kennel cough

My vet says she has kennel cough. 8 year old German Shephard. She is a very healthy and spoilt dog. I get her checked up often. I hate watching her go through this. Is there anything I can do to help soothe her cough and her throat. She is on anti-biotics. I am very 'bonded' to my girl and know when she is'nt right. I took her to the vet from the very first coughing fit.
She has also gone off her food. Is this normal?

just a multiple hounds caretaker ..

can't help with what to give her other than the meds..
it does clear up quickly if treated early..
appetite will come back quickly once she turns the corner..

I boarded mine recently..
they got the kennel cough shot..
and ..
a 'Flu' shot ...

My Dog had it once, it was hard to hear & watch him cough so much but after about 24hrs of meds he was improving.

The best way to prevent this is to give your dog a Bordetella shot just prior to boarding. They usually pick up the virus from other dogs in a kennel. With the antibotics it should be gone in a week or so.

most kennels require this shot if you want to board..
common place were they pick this up..
the dog-park..
and trails/walk areas that other owners use often..

Not kennel cough. Lung cancer. My poor baby will be departing this world today. I am devastated.

She's gone. The most beautiful animal one could ever own. It was an honour to have her in our lives.

dewolf:

Oh my goodness.....I am so very sorry for your loss. She was incredibly gorgeous - inside as well as out - you can see that in her photo. I'm sure she had a wonderful life and will always be cherished in your heart.

Could you please share with us her name?

Sincere condolences from Billabong, Winkipop, and I.

Thanks guys. I am truly ripped to shreds. My beautiful Amber bonded with me like no other animal I have owned. It's going to take me a very long time get over her.

Wow Dewolf, that's terrible! My sincerest condolences. It's rough, we had to put down Strasse our 9 year old German Shepard last year. Bladder cancer. I'm sure Strasse and Amber are running and playing in Doggie Heaven right now.
