Can't put my finger on recognizing this guy
He was walking along in the hot pits at Long Beach. Everyone was saying hello and shaking his hand.

I thought he might be with an ALMS team and escaped over to the INDY car pits. I've seen his face somewhere. I've ruled out a lot of those that I would recognize. I don't think he's a former driver of any great fame. I just don't know a lot of the background guys, but apparently the cognoscenti do.

I've got some great photos that I will post at some point. The best one of all is Will Power jumping on the back of Ryan Briscoe's scooter. They took off about 5 feet from me and were having a great ol' time. Rubens Barrichello came right by on his scooter and I spoke out, "Welcome to Long Beach." Got a big smile from him, but he was smiling all the way.
I like that guy. And Katherine Legge is pretty, very pretty up close. Not real fast today though. No one was. It was cold and wet. |

I think that's a very close match, but no. I could be wrong, of course.

If not Renee Arnoux, then certainly someone with a very striking resemblence to him.
Though I concede that I have not seen any recent pictures of Arnoux, that photo looks as I imagine he would look now. angela

I still don't think Arnoux. I studied his face features on many pics supplied by Google. I don't see the same guy. Anyway, I put this up over on FerrariChat. Maybe they've got an answer.
I'm a people watcher at the races. I was leading my grand daughter around and announcing anyone I recognized as she took pics. 330 in all. I'd say she got 15-20 keepers. We saw lots of people and surprised a few. As we walked along in the hot pits after the session was over (when our passes were good) we passed Robin Miller and cohorts (no camera crew). He wasn't wearing his usual cap. I said, "There's Robin Miller" as he passed and he looked at me like, "Who the hell are you?" but he said, "Hi" in response as we passed. The GD didn't know who he was, but she did have a crush on Josef Newgarden. She was back there at the races with her dad on Sunday, I was home. I wonder what she thought of JN after he never made it through T1. ![]() |

True, Arnoux made more than his share of bone-headed moves, but Prost was such an exceptional driver that he probably made that comment about more than a few of the other drivers. The aesthetics comment is good humor, considering Arnoux's popularity with the distaff side of the F1 circus.

Newgarden would surely stick out in the pitlane on raceday. Red in the face!
I think I like him - he was pretty good on the TV speaking of it after the fact.

I thought he was arrogant and ignorant. No one has ever made that pass since the course changed.
